Merges

edit

Please don't do merges such as this one. The fact that one entry links to the other makes it clear that they are not the same. The title of the fr.wiki article also makes it clear that it is about a more limited aspect of barque. /Lokal Profil (talk) 10:20, 5 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merge on Tech Camp

edit

I notice that you redid an edit of yours I just reverted on Q3516793. While the two pages have similar names, the two entities being described in the French wiki compared to the English wiki are not the same - the french wiki is referring to an organization, the English wiki is referring to a type of program. As such, both pages should not be listed in the same wikidata page. I have undone your edit just now, but if you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to do so on my talk page. --Robometheus (talk) 06:11, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Robometheus, and thank you for your contributions. In my opinion, different spelling of the term (tech camp in the English article / TechCamps in the French article), different wording within the articles, and, especially, different focus on the matter depending on each article, are confusing you. The French article focuses much more in the political aspect, but I'm pretty sure that, in fact, both articles share the same subject. As a conclusion, not only both articles should be connected via Wikidata, but, also, the French article's title should be moved to the English spelling (that is, "tech camp"). Your opinion will be welcome. Kintaro (talk) 06:59, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Kintaro, thanks for reaching back to me. I re-read the articles to be sure, and I'm still convinced they're different entities. As you can see at this page, the French wiki page is referring to a specific organization run by the US State Department, as you can see by the external link pointing to the organization page, a website called Tech Camp Global, and all references also refer to that specific organization. The English wiki page over here is referring not to this same organization, but instead is describing a type of camp, much like these pages, which do not reference a specific organization, but merely describe a type of camp, much like this page on asthma camps, or this one on band camps. As you can see, these do not describe a specific organization, but a type of camp. I believe the correct course of action is for a new Wikidata entity to be created for the English page's "Tech camp" , and for a new page to be created on the French wikipedia to match the English one's content. --Robometheus (talk) 17:01, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
To clarify, the French wikipedia page is referencing this organization, as you can see by the spelling and formatting matching the Wikipedia article. That is why the spelling on the French wiki differs from the English one, and why the references and external website all reference that organization. --Robometheus (talk) 17:08, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
