Google Classroom (GC) is a platform used by schools to continue their delivery of instructional p... more Google Classroom (GC) is a platform used by schools to continue their delivery of instructional processes during the pandemic. This study identified the extent of students' and teachers' utilization of GC's features, their assessment as a learning management system, and their experiences using the platform. Concurrent-nested mixed method was employed. Purposive criterion and random sampling were used for the selection of the participants. Findings revealed significant difference in communication and task management in the features of GC. Ease of access, perceived usefulness, communication and interaction, and perceived instruction delivery demonstrated significant difference. This implies the beneficial use of GC for participants in achieving better results in their heutagogical practices in learning and teaching. Two themes emerged from their experiences of GC. Digital interdependence specifically classifies their experiences as adeptness and ease, effectiveness and efficiency, and engagement, while discomfort, lack of resources, connectivity, and academic honesty are their experiences of technological vulnerability.

This study intended to identify the most frequent error types found in the expository essays of third-year Bachelor of Elementary Education students enrolled in Remote and Distance Learning in one of the Philippines' private schools. The study used a content analysis research design that allowed the researcher to quantify and analyze the presence, meanings, and relationships of certain words, themes, or concepts. The errors made evident in the essays were quantified to determine which were the most frequent. An error analysis was then done to determine what makes the item erroneous. This study aimed to determine the implications of Verbal Learning Style Characteristics of College Students' Oral English Skills. A correlational research design was used. The study was participated in by (50) fifty Teacher Education Program College students. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tools to assess students' verbal learning style and oral English skills. The findings of the study showed that there is a significant correlation found between college students' verbal learning style as to memory and their level of oral English skills as to pronunciation which implied that ability to pronounce words is determined by their term memory to recall the manner on how words and phrases are sounded in English.

One of the most intriguing issues of the present time is the application of online teaching in ed... more One of the most intriguing issues of the present time is the application of online teaching in education. This became more popular when the pandemic happened. Thus, making the educational sectors address the demands of the present time. In particular, this paper examined the experiences of Junior High School English teachers of two universities in the city of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. The study used transcendental phenomenology as a research approach (Creswell, 2007). In the gathering of data, a semi-structured interview was conducted online. Creswell's modified version of the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method of Moustakas (1994) was utilized in the data analysis. Findings showed four emerging themes namely: 1) Sense of Fulfillment; 2) Challenges; 3) Use of Relevant / Appropriate Strategies; and, 4) Development of Values, Skills, Virtues, and Qualities. These themes point to the essence of resiliency and adaptability experienced by the teachers in their online teaching. Specifically, the success or fulfillment, as well as the challenges experienced by the participants of the study, have made them adaptable and resilient to address the demands of their profession. The findings point to the need for academic online teachers to impart their knowledge, skills, and experiences to their fellow teachers.

Code-switching is the use of two languages in discourse to convey the intended message. The study... more Code-switching is the use of two languages in discourse to convey the intended message. The study investigated the phenomenon of code-switching during oral participation, specifically the experiences and contexts of the purposively selected students of ABC College in Cagayan de Oro City. The Phenomenology Design was employed in this study to explore the participants' actual experiences to identify the essence of human experiences. This study included six students from different programs of ABC College who experienced codeswitching. The analysis was done using Creswell's (2007) simplified version of Moustakas's modification of the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen Method of Analysis of Phenomenological Data. The finding of the study showed that the participants switched between codes during oral participation to support their communication skills and to feel more comfortable and confident in participating. The findings demonstrated that the phenomenon of code-switching as used by the students tended to come out when they were asked, wanted to express themselves more, encountered difficulty using the English language, were afraid to commit grammar errors, had difficulty recalling, lacked vocabulary, and when teachers allowed them to switch codes. This implies that the participants' experiences and contexts of code-switching during oral participation are reasons for code-switching. Thus, this study recommended facilitating the use of code-switching during oral participation in moderation for students to practice proficiency in their second language, English.

This study aimed to determine the Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) graduates' kitchen sanitation and hygiene practices in school to their practices in the industry. There were sixty-seven HRM graduates of the College in Cagayan de Oro City employed in the different hotels, restaurants, and chains who participated as the participants of the study. A snowball sampling technique was used. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to generate the findings. Generally, results show that school kitchen practices have a minimal implication on HRM graduates' real-life practices in the industry. Among the kitchen practices, only storage is significantly having an impact on HRM graduates' practices in both school and industry. Thus, the findings of the study call for the need to intensify school kitchen teaching practices in actualizing real concepts and practices of the kitchen industry.

However, it provides less speaking participation for students. This study explores the effectiveness of Socratic questioning in developing students' English-speaking skills during their online synchronous class. This study used the Pre-experimental-one-group pretest and posttest design. Thirty-five (35) students who were asked for their consent participated in this study. The study was conducted in one of the classes in Purposive Communication in a private college in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, for the first semester of the AY 2020-2021. The instrument used in assessing students' English-Speaking Skills is the Student Oral Observation Matrix (SOLOM), taken from the Riverside County Seal of Multiliteracy (2008). The study used Paul's (2001) model of Socratic questioning. Based on the findings, through the lens and principles of reasons, Socratic questioning helped improve students' English-speaking skills in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and comprehension. The result of this study confirms Paul's (2001) model of Socratic questioning, stressing that by working through an organized procedure of framing questions during discussions and other oral-related activities, learners are disciplined and trained to speak and reason. This finding, therefore, calls for the need of teachers to utilize Socratic questioning in their online synchronous learning to develop student's skills in speaking, which in turn enliven their active participation in the virtual class.

This study aimed at identifying the extent of the student-participants' electronic media exposures as a tool in developing their reading comprehension skills. The study used the correlational research design. The participants involved were the two hundred ten (210) students taken from the literature class of a private college in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines during the School Year 2018-2019. Data were generated through descriptive and inferential statistics. The results confirmed that there is a positive significant relationship between electronic media exposures in science fiction and adventure to student-participants' reading comprehension skills in terms of sequencing events, predicting outcomes, and identifying themes. However, a host of other factors may affect students' reading comprehension skill in noting detail. Based from the findings drawn, the study calls for the need to reinforce the use of electronic media in increasing students' reading comprehension skills. Moreover, the result of this investigation can be used as a baseline data in making instructional materials, which presuppose the integration of electronic media activities.

This study examined the interrelationship of the freshman students' knowledge, participation, and... more This study examined the interrelationship of the freshman students' knowledge, participation, and witnessing of the Eucharist as presence, sacrifice and communion. There were two hundred sixty-five freshman students involved in this investigation. Data were gathered using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings reveal that the students' level of knowledge of and participation in the Holy Eucharist were average and high, respectively. Also, their lived experience of Eucharist as presence, sacrifice, and communion was to a high extent. Results of the study also show that students' extent of knowledge of and participation in the Eucharist were significantly contributed to the extent to which they lived the Eucharist as presence, sacrifice and communion. Results further point the need of the campus ministry and religious studies instructor to emphasize strongly the teachings of the Church especially the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist through catechism.

The phenomenological study was utilized to espouse their experiences. Specifically, a bracketing process was used in order for the researcher to put aside his experiences in order to accurately describe the participants' lived experiences. The data were derived from informal survey questions and in-depth interviews. In executing this method, there were two phases involved (1) the collection of the neophyte teachers lived experiences in teaching; (2) and the emerging themes out of their teaching experiences. The teacher-participants' lived experiences in teaching reveal their collective challenges on classroom management, teacher-parents communication, and the teaching of the RVM Pedagogy. This study hopes to contribute to the collective challenges and experiences of the neophyte teachers in uplifting their morale in teaching. Furthermore, the study points to the need of the institution to strengthen the beginner teachers' aforesaid collective challenges through seminars and trainings.

This descriptive-correlational study determined the association of informal linguistic environments and oral English skills of speech class students of Lourdes College-Higher Education Department, S.Y 2017-2018. A total of seventy-five (75) student-participants were randomly selected as the subjects of the study. Descriptive-correlational research design was employed in this investigation. A validated research questionnaire was utilized to carry out the findings of the study. Descriptive statistics such as mean distribution was used to determine the extent of students' English language exposure in informal linguistic environment and the extent of their oral English skills. Pearson r was used to determine the association of informal linguistic environments and oral English skills. Results revealed that informal linguistic environments such as interacting in English language through technology-mediated communication, reading of fictional and non-fictional materials in English, watching of television programs and movies in English, and listening to the radio programs/songs in English had a significant association to student-participants' oral English skills in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and comprehension. This study, therefore, recommended the need for student-participants to be exposed extensively to the informal contexts of learning the English language, specifically, on the macro skill of speaking.

Specifically, it aims at examining Frost's inner being, emphasizing his own self and experiences in the poem or text. The study employs the qualitative research design which made use of discourse analysis using the critical theory of expressivism as the main guide. In acquiring the data of the study, the art of historiography is used such as autobiographical and/or biographical notes, sources documents, and web information. Specifically, life histories and biographical methods served as the basis of the analysis. In executing the methods involved in this study, it is observed that the poem shows a naturalist implicatures, expressing Frost's strong feelings and emotions being devoid of free will and a narrow bit of confusions and ambiguities with his indecisions in life.

Specifically, it determined the following: the historical background of the Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo; the feminist ethos as found in the account of her life as a holy woman; and the significance of her life vis-à-vis education ministry. The study employed qualitative research using documentary analysis and the feminist hermeneutics in acquiring the data. Sources of data included key informants, biographies, stories, articles, and transcribed speeches of priests. The Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo espoused a collective feminist ethos centered on religiosity, heroism, and education. Such traits were revealed in the historical roots and biography of Venerable Ignacia.

Several studies and analyses were already conducted in identifying the meaning of this poem and that too much effort was already being given by Frost's critics in interpreting the poem in the context of the poet's symbolic terrain in general; however, such tensions and oppositions of making meaning of the poem are akin to have an interpretation of poem's theme as a mere appreciation of nature and impression of death. Thus, this paper tries to explore other symbolic interpretation and that it argues that this poem reveals the poet's downfalls and his worth emulating fatherly and husbandry character via biographical literary theory.

This study determined the influence of language exposures towards the English Speaking Proficienc... more This study determined the influence of language exposures towards the English Speaking Proficiency (ESP) of the L2 students in one of the universities in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. A total of 75 fourth year students who were enrolled in the Job Enabling English Proficiency (JEEP 4) course were taken as participants. The correlational research method was employed. Mean, standard deviation, pearson r, and Multiple Regression Analysis were used to generate the findings of the study. The participants' language exposures were assessed using the Language Exposure Questionnaire while their ESP was determined using the Rubric on Student Oral Language Observation Matrix (SOLOM) adapted from the Riverside County Seal of Multi-literacy, (2008). The general finding showed that students had a very good oral English proficiency measured in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and comprehension. Generally, both formal and informal language exposures had significant association on the students' speaking proficiency. However, a combination of both formal and informal factors predicted the students' oral speaking skills implying that both the home and the school environment go, hand in hand, in facilitating the students' oral speaking skills.
