Got to have a conversation with Johnnie Burn who did the sound for this and he brought his Oscar (and I got to hold it!?) which is crazy.

Film is great on a rewatch and is a film I feel will only get better every rewatch. Hearing him talk about the film only made it more enjoyable - especially his experiences with Jordan Peele, Yorgos Lanthimos and of course Jonathan Glazer. What a great film with an unforgettable experience.

    My favourite quotes

“where will you be heading tonight sir?”

    “Purgatory.”

“You may think I’m crazy but the voices are saying I’m sane”

“I will name the daughter ‘Sunny Hope’ and I will name the son ‘Francis’ (Ford Coppola)”

Grandpa on his deathbed: “how do you like this boner though huh?” Then reveals it to be a crossbow and he shoots his child in the ass.

    Misc:

    - Swastika tree stump

    - 3 Marcus Aurelius quotes…

No way I went into this thinking it was a horror 😭

Was originally thinking about giving this a 3.5 but then the final 30 minutes happen and HOLY SHIT. I don’t think I’ve laughed that much in a cinema ever. The rest of the movie is pretty good - balancing the tone of movies like Challengers or Kinds of Kindness with some gnarly practical effects. It did lose me in the middle though - hammering home the same point…

    Stand by Me

    ★★★

It didn’t work for me untill the end when the credits rolled and ‘stand by me’ played so I guess that means something.

Didn’t really care about any of the main boys because all of their issues were so on the nose (daddy issues, dead relative, daddy issues, fat/stupid) - they all felt like classic ‘loser’ caricatures. Nobody is fleshed out more than their base attributes except for when they cry about their ‘deep’ problems. Not to sound all edgy,…
