Avicularia est genus aranearum familiae Theraphosidarum, cui sunt species tarantulae vulgo appellatae, in tropica America Australi endemicae. Nomen ex avicula formatum est, quia Aviculariae parvas aves edere putabantur.[1] Genus ab Ioanne Baptista Lamarckio anno 1818 erectum est.
