Duncan McCargo
I am currently Director of the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies and Professor of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen. I am on leave from my post as Professor of Political Science at the University of Leeds. For 2015-16 was in residence at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. I've served as the Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Studies of the United Kingdom (ASEASUK), and as President of the European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS). I'm also a co-founder of the New York Southeast Asia Network (nysean.org).
I am primarily interested in questions of power: how elites seek to retain power, and how various political actors and forces try to remove power from them. Most of my research focuses on Southeast Asia, especially Thailand.
