There is extensive research on performance measures (e.g. impact on performance, design of measures, balancing of measures). How performance measures are set however, have been scarcely researched. ...

This study explores the introduction of product-service offerings in which the manufacturing firmmay loose its product based competitive advantage. Conceptually, the study furthers understanding of therole that capabilities have in servitisation. It also establishes the link between product-service system anddiscontinuous innovation. Empirically, the study provides insights into management considerations whenfaced with the dilemma of having to pursue product service propositions that weaken or marginaliseexisting product or technology based capability advantages. This affects firm value proposition, creationand capture in a substantially different way than in existing servitisation models.

With the increased electrification of transportation, there is a growth in the number of electric vehicles (EV) in use, and hence also discarded EV batteries. It is critical to trace the batteries so that the policy of electrification does not lead to a negative impact on sustainability. To achieve the goals of circular economy, it is necessary to consider the sustainable extended life cycle strategies of reduce, reuse and recycle. Information gathering and sharing through the supply chain is the key driver for enabling the tracking and tracing of materials and services needed. Traceability indicators across the value chain may enable the creation of a comprehensive database that aids the circular economy goals. In this study, we discuss three different circular economy business models and identify the key traceability indicators for enabling circularity in the lithium-ion battery application in the automotive sector. Insights are used to develop a framework for viable EV battery circularity, capturing three key circular economy elements and four traceability characteristics for different circularity types.

Abstract Companies are adopting several new technologies that form the pillars of Industry 4.0 production framework, of which Digital Manufacturing (DM) stands out by combining conventional manufacturing technologies with digital techniques. These are used to assist in the design and analysis of the product and manufacturing processes. The adoption of digital manufacturing is partly about technological change, but it also entails significant organizational issues, which often are overlooked by managers. The purpose of this study is to identify the key factors that enable or prevent DM implementation, considering the production paradigm of Industry 4.0. Based on a literature review that identified a preliminary list of key factors, the appropriateness of these factors is empirically tested and refined in a two-fold approach: an in-depth pilot case in a multinational automotive company that is adopting DM technologies, and a survey of 113 users, managers, implementers and researchers working on digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0. The study identified 24 key factors to be considered when firms implement DM. These are categorized into technical, organizational, project based and external factors. The findings also indicate how each factor should be considered, and that they cannot be generalized due to cultural differences inherent to each individual company. As such, this research contributes to the current research debate by identifying the critical factors to be considered when conceiving and applying models for planning and executing DM implementation.

"Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to expose the disparity of risk perception and prioritization in an operation between client and supplier. It identifies the commonly used risk classifications as a basis to this analysis. Design/methodology - An inductive study based on three relationships with increasing levels of organizational and knowledge integration. The qualitative data is transcribed and coded to expose the key themes. Findings- The paper indicates that clients in the relationship have greater breadth of awareness of risks and prioritize safety risks greater than their suppliers in the same operation. It shows that practitioner classification of risks does not reflect the conceptual models in literature. "

We examine whether business model concepts, that demonstrate significant convergence to Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) attributes, fit to DLT ecosystem characteristics and identify similarities and deflections. We answer the question whether the appropriate DLT business model is totally unique or adjustable and what conditions need to be met. The study follows a conceptual approach that is based on critical examination of three business model types that demonstrate similarities to the business model that an organization needs to adopt in order to fit in DLT ecosystem characteristics. Although each one of the network, digital and information business model types demonstrate similarities to DLT business model and reveal some resemblance with it, there are critical parameters that are neither addressed nor partially met. The main contribution of study is the exploration of the adjustable nature of the DLT business. Moreover, we highlighted the challenge for DLT ecosystem sustainab...
