Being There For You
Eiji Arashiba x (Fem) Reader
Note : This is after the events of Banri’s death, Eiji’s best friend. Also, Eiji may be out of OOC in this.
Helios lost one member of the team and he was very special to them. Kagami, Kazuma, you and Eiji. Banri Mikado, he died during passing on his Cait Sith divine tattoo to Kazuma whom the evil entity named Fenrir was constantly trying to take control of. Eiji nearly ended up putting an end to Fenrir by killing his own younger brother Kazuma.
He hesitated, of course. Eiji hated the idea of ending Kazuma’s life. His one and only family. Until Banri came up with the only solution. Banri planned to give up his Cait Sith tattoo to Kazuma, making him his successor. Eiji didn’t know about this; he wasn’t quite happy with it from the start but he went along with it. So did Kagami. They had no choice.
You watched it all happen in a flash, you didn’t know what to do. Banri is now dead and Kazuma’s memories of his death were locked away. Kagami thought it would be for the best to keep his long lost memories hidden so that way Kazuma doesn’t find out what truly happened. Your life was torn apart by this and by Eiji’s loss of his good friend.
A week after that, Kazuma finally woke up and didn’t remember what happened on that day. Only remembered that Banri passed him the tattoo. Kazuma had been told by Kagami that Banri even left town for a personal reason. A lie that Eiji and Kagami had no choice but to hide the truth.
It was raining heavily in Akatsuki Ward and Eiji kept himself locked up in his apartment, all alone while moping over the death of his best friend Banri. He didn’t want to show his vulnerable side in front of anyone until you came over outside his apartment, knocking gently on the door hoping that he would let you in, “Eiji? Eiji, it’s me…(Y/n)...” You spoke softly through the door, placing your hand on it worryingly.
Footsteps muffled through your ears, you took a step back as Eiji opened the door. Somehow, he looked a bit thin and you could easily tell that he hasn’t been eating enough, “(Y/n)...What are you doing here? Why did you come all the way here when it’s literally raining in Akatsuki?” He asked without annoyance in his tone.
You looked at him in concern, “Am I not allowed to check up on my boyfriend?” giving Eiji a very broken smile. He swung the door to his left, giving enough access for you to come in. Eiji laid back down on his couch with his arm thrown over his forehead, you pulled up a chair and sat down beside him. You weren’t sure whether to comfort him or not. To hold him but you knew that wouldn’t make anything better.
“I’m so tired, (Y/n)...” Eiji spoke up with a melancholic tone, looking up to the ceiling, “Sometimes I wonder if I'm even a Hero of Akatsuki or not. Anyone I care about is just going to leave me all alone in the dark…”
You shake your head, hearing him talk like that shattered your heart, “No, Eiji. You won’t lose me, Kazuma, Kagami or anyone else. I will make sure of that.”
“Banri is dead. We were right next to the guy and there’s nothing we could do except the only choice we had to make.” Eiji blamed himself for Banri’s death, wishing that he could set everything back and save his best friend. You even blamed yourself for not being able to stop Banri from doing what he planned to do but what could you possibly do to prevent everything that happened?
“Banri meant everything to us, I feel terrible that we had to lie to Kazuma about this. Everything that happened…” You clenched your hands onto your lap, looking down as sad thoughts clouded your mind.
“When Kazuma was taken over by Fenrir, I was about to…you know…” Eiji paused, moving his arm away from his forehead.
“Eiji, I’m glad you and Kagami didn’t do it because…” You swallowed your own throat, “I was so scared of what might happen if you do end up doing…oh I can’t say it.”
Eiji grunted, jumping off his couch to look outside his window. Reeling in the emptiness of Akatsuki Ward. The continuous heavy rain poured down to the streets of the town. Seeing how miserable it looked during the conflict that happened four years ago. You got off the stool and walked over to stand beside him. Wondering what’s going through his head right now.
“How can I be a hero when I can’t possibly save anyone in this town…?” Eiji wondered to himself, questioning the thought. You fling your arms around him from behind, your head pressed to his back, “Whether you’re a hero or not, you’re still the same guy who did a lot of good things for this town. Sometimes…” You took a small pause, lifting your hand to hold his, “ Sometimes a hero…can’t save everyone. You could try and save everyone but things may go wrong, especially when you’re stuck with not many choices to choose from.”
Eiji sighed deeply and ran his hand through his brown hair in distress, “I had a nightmare the other day. You were there and…I couldn’t save you. I’m worried that one day…I will end up losing you…and anyone else I really care about.”
Your heart snapped in half, tightening the embrace around him from behind, “No, that won’t happen. You’re not going to lose me. Not Kagami…not Kazuma either. You will always have them…” You put your hands on his shoulders to turn him around to face you, “And me…nothing is going to change that.”
You managed to get out a little smile on his face, even though it was a very sad-broken one. Eiji scooped you into his arms, his face buried into your hair. Feeling the need for your comfort.
“I will always be here, Eiji…no matter what.”
