"Identifying and analyzing the causes and consequences that generate the high consumption of mercury in gold mining activities is an international priority. In Colombia, eighty-seven percent of the
country’s gold mines have no mining title and only 3% possess environmental licenses. High mining and environmental lawlessness, the failures of formalization programs and the inadequacy of importation controls on the supply are the cause
of the high consumption of mercury in Colombian mining. To diagnose the country’s gold mining activities and the excessive use of mercury in them, we used six information sources (semi-structured interviews, 2011 Census on Mining Activities), nine
dependent and 21 independent variables. The study evidenced the miners’ partiality in favor of the use of mercury in the procurement of gold; the process is easy, quick and inexpensive. Mercury concentrations were found to be above tolerable levels. In response, government has opted for a policy of persecution
of the activity rather than the promotion of their
formalization."

Se comparó la abundancia relativa de Grundulus bogotensis
entre dos cuencas y la dieta entre poblaciones de tres cuencas del
altiplano Cundiboyacense. Entre marzo y junio de 2006 se realizaron
muestreos en 10 localidades utilizando un equipo de electropesca. La
abundancia relativa de cada localidad se expresó como el número de
individuos capturado por hora en un tramo de 100m. Se utilizó un
test de Kruskal-Wallis para determinar diferencias significativas en la
abundancia relativa entre cuencas. Para cuantificar la dieta se utilizó
el método volumétrico y para determinar el grado de similaridad
entre cuencas se recurrió a tres análisis multivariados: análisis de
escalonamiento multidimensional no métrico (NMDS), análisis
de similaridad (ANOSIM) y análisis de porcentaje de similaridad
(SIMPER). Se capturaron en total 675 individuos, empleando 600
minutos de esfuerzo de captura. La abundancia de la especie en la
cuenca del río Bogotá fue significativamente menor respecto a la
del río Suárez. La composición de la dieta y volumen de ítems entre
cuencas fue similar. El material consumido fue de origen autóctono
y los ítems más importantes fueron los insectos inmaduros y los
microcrustáceos. La abundancia relativa de las poblaciones de G.
bogotensis en la cuenca del río Bogotá fue menor que en la cuenca del
río Suárez. La cuenca del río Suárez probablemente soporta la mayor
abundancia de la especie en todo su rango de distribución y los datos
sugieren condiciones favorables para la sobrevivencia de la Guapucha
en el lago de Tota. El análisis de la dieta indicó una similaridad mayor
al 60% en la utilización del recurso alimentar en las tres cuencas.

Se presenta un estudio de las medidas difusas y
de las integrales difusas, y se muestran algunos fenómenos
donde estas son utilizadas. Se expone cómo es introducido el
concepto de medida difusa y cómo a partir de él se introduce
la noción de integral difusa. Se establecen propiedades de
las medidas difusas y se clasifican de acuerdo a la propiedad
aditiva y las -medidas, se observa cómo las medidas de
probabilidad, plausibilidad, credibilidad, posibilidad y necesidad
son ejemplos clásicos en la clasificación realizada. Se
hace un análisis de las dos principales integrales difusas: integral
de Sugeno e integral de Choquet, dado que la aplicación
de estas integrales se hace sobre conjuntos finitos, se realiza
utilizando el concepto de función equiordenada una comparación
de ellas para el caso finito. Se presentan dos ejemplos
donde se utilizan las medidas difusas e integrales difusas en
los procesos de clasificación de individuos y evaluación de
calidad. También se describen algunos fenómenos donde
ellas son aplicadas. Las medidas clásicas son usadas en ciertos
casos especiales de incertidumbre basados en la aleatoriedad.
La utilización en determinados contextos de medidas difusas
(no aditivas) y de las integrales difusas ofrece un enfoque más
flexible y realista para modelar la incertidumbre.

Here we synthesized two nitro regioisomers
of cis-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-methyl-2-phenyl-1,2,3,4-
tetrahydroquinoline via the “one pot” three-component
imino Diels-Alder reaction catalyzed by BF3.OEt2
and completed its structural characterization using the
single crystal X-ray diffraction technique and other
spectroscopic methods. To monitor the purity of the
products and the composition of the reaction mixtures
we used thin layer chromatography, and isolated and
purified the products by column chromatography. Then
using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass
spectrometry (MS) identified the substances. We collected
X-ray diffraction data for crystal characterization by
using a Bruker AFC7S Mercury diffractometer with Mo-
Kα radiation (λ = 0.71073Å) at room temperature. The
structures of these regioisomers were confirmed by 1H
NMR and 13C NMR studies and studied their crystal
structure using single crystal X-ray diffraction technique.
The spectroscopy analyses (NMR, GC-MS and X-ray
diffraction) provided a complete characterization
and enabled the correct stereochemistry for the
tetrahydroquinoline ring. We determined the molecular
packing for the 5-nitro regioisomer 4 is the product of
the combination of intermolecular hydrogen bonds and
van der Waals interactions, while for 7-nitro regioisomer
3 is mainly due to weak intermolecular van der Waals
interactions and N—H··· π.

Mortars from Bogotá, Villa de Leyva
and Barichara were compared chemically and
microbiologically. We analyzed the samples using atomic
absorption and emission spectrometry, Fourier-transform
infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning
electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy.
Oxides of silicon, aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium,
gypsum, weddellite, despujolsite, quartz, berlinite,
carbonate, mica, feldspars, silicates, nitrate salts, sulfites,
and organic compounds were identified. In addition,
irregular particles between 10, 50 an 100 μm were
found, as well organic fibers of 20 μm. Was performed
a CFU count using a dilution method to identify fungal
microorganisms and found following genera Aspergillus,
Penicillium, Alternaria, Fusarium, Mucor and Syncephalastrum.
The mortar sample taken in Bogotá presented the
highest number of CFU/mL and the highest percentage
of relative humidity. The concentration of fungi in this
sample, unlike those from Villa de Leyva and Barichara,
caused degradation in most of the metals identified.
This chemical and microbiological comparison proposes
an effective plan of action to eliminate and prevent
biodeterioration in support of the conservation of
heritage constructions.

Se estudiaron las propiedades toxicológicas de los tres
compuestos híbridos quinolin-tiazolidinona (FR-72 y FR-121), y acridinepoxiisoindolindiona
(FR-154) aplicándolos en el test de las raíces de
bulbos de cebolla Allium cepa. Las moléculas FR-72, FR-121 y FR-
154 fueron sintetizadas de novo según protocolos experimentales
descritos. Los bulbos de Allium cepa (2n = 16) limpios y sanos,
previamente sumergidos en el agua destilada, se secaron con papel
toalla y se colocaron directamente en los tubos de ensayo llenos con
la sustancia a evaluar. Los experimentos se realizaron a temperatura
ambiente 20 ± 2°C y se mantuvieron en oscuridad. El periodo de
exposición de los bulbos fue de 120 horas y las raíces que se utilizaron
para el montaje de genotoxicidad eran en promedio de 2 a 2.5 cm
de longitud. La evaluación del comportamiento de las tres moléculas
quinolínicas sobre la inhibición del crecimiento promedio de las raíces
de bulbos de cebolla Allium cepa se realizó con los tres parámetros
de bioactividad (CE50, IM, ACs) en diferentes concentraciones. Las
sustancias evaluadas pueden considerarse aneugénicas, ya que actúan
a nivel de estructuras celulares y moleculares e impiden la fijación de
las fibras del huso acromático, por ende ocasionan el desplazamiento
de cromosomas en anafase o pérdidas de cromosomas, llegando
incluso a ser inductoras de la apoptosis al sobrepasar la capacidad
homeostática de la célula. El análisis preliminar indicó que la molécula
FR-121 a concentración 10-6 M y la molécula FR-154 a concentración
10-3 M resultaron ser potentes agentes fitotóxicos provocando diversas
aberraciones claustogénicas y aneugénicas.

Se estudió la remoción de colorantes negro reactivo 5 y
cristal violeta, mediante la reacción Fenton empleando catalizadores
de Fe2O3 (0-10% m/m de Fe) soportados en carbón activado
obtenido a partir de residuos de rosas. El carbón activado fue
obtenido por pirólisis a 500 ºC (1h) seguido de activación con NaOH
(1:2 en peso). El soporte fue caracterizado empleando diferentes
técnicas químicas y físicas. Los catalizadores de Fe fueron sintetizados
mediante impregnación incipiente. Los tratamientos Fenton y de
adsorción fueron realizados en un reactor Batch, concentración de 10
mgL-1 de los colorantes, 0,25 mgmL-1 de catalizador, pH=3,7, 20±2
ºC, 750 rpm y presión atmosférica. El carbón activado empleado
como soporte presentó alta basicidad, presencia de grupos polares en
superficie, alto contenido de cenizas (22,85%) y de oxígeno (43,93%)
y fue mayoritariamente microporoso con un área superficial BET
de 520 m2g-1. La máxima remoción lograda para el negro reactivo 5
se obtuvo con el catalizador de 3% Fe (98,33%) luego de 180 min.
mientras que para el cristal violeta se obtuvo con el catalizador de
1% de Fe (63,95%) después de 180 min. La remoción mediante el
tratamiento Fenton fue dependiente del contenido de Fe, tamaño de
partícula del sitio activo y del tipo de colorante. La remoción de negro
reactivo 5 alcanzó un máximo con 3% de Fe mientras que para el
cristal violeta disminuyó con el incremento del contenido de Fe. El
tratamiento planteado en el presente trabajo es promisorio para la
eliminación de colorantes sintéticos presentes en aguas contaminadas.

Para evaluar el potencial organogénico de Cedrela montana
Moritz ex Turcz, se colectaron explantes de árboles maduros (10-
20 años) y juveniles (7-18 meses). Los primeros incluyeron yemas,
hojas y nudos de brotes juveniles (ubicados hacia la parte basal del
tronco) y rejuvenecidos (obtenidos a partir de estacas). Los segundos
hojas, peciolos, nudos, entrenudos y nudos de brotes elongados in
vitro. Los nudos de árboles juveniles presentaron el mayor potencial
organogénico, ya que el 45,8% de los explantes presentaron elongación
de yemas axilares y el 56,2% enraizamiento en medio sin reguladores
de crecimiento. El 51% de los brotes elongados formaron brotes
adventicios con 0.5 μM NAA y 0.5 μM BA, el 30% con 0.5 μM NAA
y 1 μM BA, y el 30% con 1 μM BA; y el 20% raíces con 0,5 μM NAA.
La formación de raíces se vio estimulada con la adición de carbón
activado (5 gL-1) en el medio. El 80% de las plántulas regeneradas a
partir de nudos y el 72,5% de las provenientes de brotes generados
in vitro se aclimataron exitosamente. Por el contrario, explantes
de árboles maduros presentaron baja respuesta organogénica.
Elongación de yemas axilares fue registrada solamente en 10.7% de
los nudos de brotes juveniles y en 6.7% de aquellos provenientes de
brotes rejuvenecidos. En conclusión, la edad de la planta donadora
y el tipo de explante influyen sobre el potencial organogénico de C.
montana. Este estudio contribuyó al conocimiento de la respuesta de
esta especie bajo condiciones in vitro.

Estudiamos
el desdoblamiento forzado de una molécula de ubiquitina, usando el
protocolo de dinámica molecular “pull and wait” (PNW) a 300 K.
Se implementó PNW en el programa CHARMM usando un tiempo
de integración de 1 fs y una constante dieléctrica de 1. La estructura
solvatada inicialmente, se colocó bajo tensión mecánica, ejerciéndose
fuerzas en diferentes direcciones. El rompimiento de cinco enlaces
de Hidrogeno entre los pliegues β1 y β5 que tiene lugar durante los
primeros 13 a 15 Å de extensión, marcan una barrera mecánica la
cual define la máxima fuerza necesaria para el desdoblamiento. Las
simulaciones realizadas muestran que dado un tiempo adecuado, la
aplicación de una fuerza pequeña puede desestabilizar los mencionados
enlaces de hidrógeno relativo a los enlaces que se pueden formar con
moléculas de agua; permitiendo la formación de enlaces de hidrógeno
estables entre aguas y donadores o aceptores de la cadena principal.
De esta forma, las simulaciones con PNW muestran que la tensión
mecánica no es responsable de separar los puentes de hidrógeno, esta
sólo los desestabiliza haciéndolos menos estables con respecto a los
enlaces que se pueden formar con moléculas de agua. Simulaciones
adicionales muestran que la fuerza necesaria para desestabilizar
los enlaces de hidrogeno, permitiendo su remplazo por enlaces con
moléculas de agua, depende fuertemente de la dirección de estiramiento.
El protocolo de simulación que permite equilibrar a cada paso de
extensión, nos evidenció eventos conducentes al desdoblamiento de la
molécula ubiquitina por fuerzas mecánicas.

El picudo de la guayaba Conotrachelus psidii Marshall
es una de las principales plagas del cultivo de la guayaba en
Santander - Colombia, causa pérdidas severas afectando la
calidad y cantidad de los frutos. El control biológico es una
opción viable para el manejo de la plaga y en especial, los
nematodos entomopatógenos (NEPs) han mostrado buenos
resultados (63-90% mortalidad) para el control de larvas de
cuarto instar del picudo de la guayaba. En el presente estudio
se evaluó el efecto de siete especies de NEPs aislados en
Colombia: Steinernema websteri JCL006, Steinernema sp. 1 JCL024,
Steinernema sp. 2 JCL007, Steinernema sp. 3 JCL027, S. colombiense
SNI0198, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora HNI0100 y Heterorhabditis
sp. SL0708 sobre larvas de cuarto instar del picudo de la
guayaba en condiciones de laboratorio. También se evaluó la
producción y el desplazamiento de las especies de NEPs más
virulentas. Se registró que Heterorhabditis sp. SL0708 genera una
mortalidad del 85% sobre el picudo de la guayaba, Steinernema
sp. 1 JCL024 del 75% y S. colombiense SNI0198 del 55%, las
otras especies de NEPs generaron mortalidad menor al 25%.
La mayor producción de JI por larva del picudo se registró
en Heterorhabditis sp. SL0708, la cual también mostró mayor
capacidad de reconocimiento cuando el hospedero es C. psidii.

The present study estimates the frequency
of the use of plant-based Complementary and
Alternative Medicine (CAM) by breast cancer patients.
From June to December of 2011, a self-administered
questionnaire was given to 404 breast cancer patients
receiving outpatient therapy at the Javeriana Oncology
Center of the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio in
Bogotá. The prevalence of patient CAM use was 57%,
out of which 76% was based on plants like anamú,
aloe, red fruits and soursop. Sixty-five percent of the
patients had a positive perception of using medicinal
plants and 57% used them simultaneously with the
oncologist recommended allopathic treatment. We
concluded that the frequency of CAM use in breast
cancer patients at the Javeriana Oncology Center
is within the prevalence range reported worldwide,
despite differences in CAM types and frequencies. The
high rates of plant-based CAM use without physician
consent, brings about the lack of assessment of the
synergic or antagonistic effects of CAM therapies
on the allopathic treatment of breast cancer and
evaluation of the antitumor and immunomodulatory
potential of the traditionally used plants.

Determining authorship and the order of authorship in
scientific papers, in modern interdisciplinary and interinstitutional
science, has become complex at a legal and ethical level. Failure
to define authorship before or during the research, creates
subsequent problems for those considered authors of a publication
or lead authors of a work, particularly so, once the project or
manuscript is completed. This article proposes a quantitative
and qualitative model to determine authorship within a scientific,
ethical and legal frame. The principles used for the construction
of this design are based on 2 criteria: a) stages of research and
scientific method involving: 1. Planning and development of the
research project, 2. Design and data collection, 3. Presentation
of results, 4. Interpretation of results, 5. Manuscript preparation
to disseminate new knowledge to the scientific community, 6.
Administration and management, and b) weighting coefficients in
each phase, to decide on authorship and ownership of the work.
The model also considers and distinguishes whether the level
and activity performed during the creation of the work and the
diffusion of knowledge is an intellectual or practical contribution;
this distinction both contrasts and complements the elements
protected by copyright laws. The format can be applied a priori
and a posteriori to the completion of a project or manuscript and
can conform to any research and publication type. The use of
this format will quantitatively resolve: 1. The order of authorship
(first author and co-author order), 2. Determine the inclusion and
exclusion of contributors, taking into account ethical and legal
principles, and 3. Percentages of economic rights for each authors.

Theoretical molecular model of the G protein-coupled 5HT2A serotonergic receptor. Objective Build a theoretical molecular
model of the tertiary structure of the Homo sapiens 5HT2A receptor from experimentally obtained structures as templates. Materials
and methods In the construction of the theoretical model we considered the protocol established by Ballesteros and Weinstein for the
construction of the G-protein coupled receptor, by the alignment of the amino acid sequence, hydrophobicity profiles, refinement of
loops by spatial restrictions and energy minimization with the force field OPLS_2005. Results The resulting model was validated by
the Ramachandran plot with 91.7% of amino acids within the limits set for angles phi and psi and a RMSD of 0.95 Å with respect to
bovine rhodopsin. Conclusions We obtained a validated theoretical model useful in studies of ligand-receptor docking.

Evaluation of an in vitro mycorrhization system of blackberry plants (Rubus glaucus, Benth). Objective. Obtain an in vitro
mycorrhization system in autotrophic culture systems of blackberry plants (Rubus glaucus, Benth). Materials and methods. We used
spores and root fragments with vesicles of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungus (AMF) Glomus sp (GEV02). We established an autotrophic
culture system of blackberry plantlets comparing two methods of direct inoculation of the AMF. We measured the number of spores
produced, the length of the extraradical mycelium as well as the percentage of colonization of the AMF. Additionally, we measured
the shoot and root length, and the fresh and dry weight of the leaf and root parts to determine the plant development. Results. The
autotrophic culture system was successful for blackberry plants (Rubus glaucus, Benth; an optimal shoot and root growth was observed.
Additionally, we obtained a system that allowed the development of Glomus sp. in in vitro conditions, with the formation of structures
typical of the symbiosis as well as a good intraradical colonization, with the production of arbuscules and vesicles, development of
extraradical mycelium with branched hyphae, and formation of new spores. Conclusion. For the first time, micropropagated blackberry
plants associated successfully with an AMF under in vitro conditions, enabling the development of the symbiotic system AMF Glomus
sp. associated to roots of micropropagated blackberry plantlets.

The assessment of water quality includes the analysis of both physical-chemical and microbiological parameters. However,
none of these evaluates the biological effect that can be generated in ecosystems or humans. In order to define the most suitable organisms
to evaluate the toxicity in the affluent and effluent of three drinking-water treatment plants, five acute toxicity bioassays were used,
incorporating three taxonomic groups of the food chain. Materials and methods. The bioassays used were Daphnia magna and Hydra
attenuata as animal models, Lactuca sativa and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata as plant models, and Photobacterium leioghnathi as
bacterial model. To meet this objective, selection criteria of the organisms evaluated and cluster analysis were used to identify the most
sensitive in the affluent and effluent of each plant. Results. All organisms are potentially useful in the assessment of water quality by
meeting four essential requirements and 17 desirable requirements equivalent to 100% acceptability, except P. leioghnathi which does
not meet two essential requirements that are the IC50 for the toxic reference and the confidence interval. The animal, plant and bacterial
models showed different levels of sensitivity at the entrance and exit of the water treatment systems. Conclusions. H. attenuata, P.
subcapitata and P. leioghnathi were the most effective organisms in detecting toxicity levels in the affluents and D. magna, P. subcapitata
and P. leioghnathi in the effluents.

During embryological limb formation mesenchymal cells condense and differentiate into chondrocytes, in a process known as
chondrogenesis. These chondrocytes synthesize glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), thus playing an important role in this process.
A simplified system in vitro chondrogenesis, using adult mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) has been demonstrated. This
differentiation potential is usually assessed by histological staining. Objective. Establishment of a semi-automatic grading system
for histochemistry stains and immunohistochemistry assays. Materials and methods. For chondrogenesis cells were cultured
for three weeks in aggregates with inducing media. Total GAGs were measured using dimethylmethylene blue (DMB) method.
For histological analyses aggregates were stained with Alcian blue for total GAGs detection and immunohistochemistry (IHC)
for aggrecan was performed. Semi-automatic grading for all slides was obtained after ImageJ analysis. Results. MSCs cultured
as aggregates in chondrogenic differentiation media had similar protein concentrations for all time points, suggesting cellularity
remained homogenous during culture. Total GAGs was higher for aggregates cultured in chondrogenic compared to complete media.
The same trend was observed for Alcian blue stain grades by blinded observer and analysis using ImageJ software. Aggrecan’s IHC analysis had a decreasing tendency with time for aggregates in chondrogenic media for blinded observer and ImageJ evaluation.
Conclusion. We developed a functional system for semi-automatic slide grading. We corroborated these results by biochemical
analysis with comparable results. To our knowledge, for in vitro chondrogenesis, this is the first report to evaluate stains using
this methodology. This procedure might be useful for other applications in the field of Biology and Medical Sciences.

Intrauterine growth restriction is a complication of pregnancy with a high probability of perinatal morbidity and mortality. It appears to
be caused by abnormal development of placental vasculature. Haemostatic processes are important for the development of the placenta,
and an imbalance between procoagulant and anticoagulant factors has been associated with risk of intrauterine growth restriction.
Objective. To evaluate coagulation abnormalities in placenta of pregnancies complicated with idiopathic intrauterine growth restriction.
Materials and methods. Five placentas from pregnancies with idiopathic intrauterine growth restriction were compared to 19 controls.
We performed gross and histological examination of the placenta. Analysis was made of both mRNA expression by real-time PCR
and protein by ELISA of tissue factor and thrombomodulin in placental tissue. Results. Results based on histological evaluation were
consistent with an increased prothrombotic state in placentas from pregnancies with idiopathic intrauterine growth restriction, and
thrombosis of chorionic vessels was the most important finding. The study showed an increased expression of tissue factor protein
(p=0.0411) and an increase in the ratio of tissue factor/thrombomodulin mRNA (p=0.0411) and protein (p=0.0215) in placentas from
pregnancies with idiopathic intrauterine growth restriction. There were no statistically significant differences neither between cases and
controls in the mRNA levels of tissue factor or thrombomodulin nor at the protein level of thrombomodulin. Conclusion. Evidence of
alteration of local haemostatic mechanisms at the level of the placenta, including abnormal expression of tissue factor and tissue factor/
thrombomodulin ratio, in pregnancies that occur with idiopathic intrauterine growth restriction is presented.

Los alcaloides bencilisoquinolínicos (ABI) son metabolitos especializados con una distribución filogenética antigua pero conservada todavía en clados modernos. Varios de ellos, como la morfina, sanguinerina y berberina tienen importancia en la medicina moderna. En esta revisión se analizan los aspectos más sobresalientes del estado actual de la biosíntesis de ABI. Se han realizado estudios que han permitido conocer la biosíntesis de 22 de estos metabolitos nitrogenados. En su formación participan 43 enzimas agrupadas en oxidoreductasas, transferasas y liasas, que en algunos casos representan ejemplos atípicos de la forma en la que se originó la diversificación del metabolismo secundario, entre ellos proteínas citocromo P450 (CYP450) con actividades catalíticas para la ruta de los ABI, o la enzima norcoclaurina sintasa (NCS) que esta emparentada con proteínas alergénicas de defensa. Así mismo, hay avances genéticos en los que
se ha podido caracterizar 30 enzimas, permitiendo conocer procesos de regulación. Otro aspecto interesante es la compartimentación de los sitios de biosíntesis y acumulación de ABI ya que en varios casos están separados espacialmente y en distintas especies o en la misma pueden participar varios tipos de células. Ello ha sugerido el transporte intra e intercelular de los alcaloides, los precursores y de las enzimas, se ha documentado el transporte de berberina entre el citoplasma y las vacuolas del almacenamiento. El panorama de la biosíntesis de ABI se ha construido con los estudios de ejemplares de importancia farmacológica.

Determinar la prevalencia de resistencia de Helicobacter pylori a tetraciclina y las posibles mutaciones que generan esta
resistencia mundialmente. Materiales y método. Se realizó una búsqueda sistemática de literatura en las bases de datos: Medline,
Science Direct (Elsevier), Ovid, Pubmed, Lilacs y MEDICLATINA, con el uso de palabras clave relevantes. La extracción de los
datos fue independiente y se realizaron listas de verificación para evaluar la calidad metodológica de los estudios. El análisis de la
información fue realizado en el programa RevMan 5®. Resultados. Se evidenció resistencia a tetraciclina por Helicobacter pylori

que más se asocia a falla terapéutica en la erradicación de Helicobacter pylori, así como la poca adherencia al tratamiento y el uso indiscriminado de antibióticos. Se evidenció que la tasa de resistencia a tetraciclina aumenta después de un primer tratamiento con este antibiótico, sin embargo la prevalencia de la resistencia global a tetraciclina es baja sin aún alcanzar límites que impidan su utilización en los esquemas de tratamiento.

Using molecular simulation, we studied the influence of Mg2+ ions on the binding mode of HTLV-I Integrase (IN) catalytic
domain (modeled by homology) with the 3,5- Dicaffeoylquinic Acid (DCQA). HTLV-I Integrase homology model was built using
template-like crystallographic data of the IN catalytic domain solved for Avian Sarcoma Virus (VSA, pdb: 1VSD). Materials and
methods. In order to analyze the role of Mg2+ in the interaction or coupling between 3,5-DCQA and Integrase, three models were created: i) in the absence of Mg2+ ions, ii) with a Mg2+ ion coordinated at Asp15 and Asp72 and iii) model with two Mg2+ ions coordinated at Asp15-Asp72 and Asp72-Glu108. Coupling force and binding free energy between 3,5-DCQA and HTLV-I IN were assessed in the three models. Results. The lowest docking score and free energy binding were obtained for the second model. Mg2+ ion strongly affected the coupling of the inhibitor 3,5-DCQA with HTLV-I catalytic domain of Integrase, thus revealing a strong interaction in the ligand-protein complex regardless of the ligand-catalytic interaction sites for all three models. Conclusion. Altogether, these results strengthen the hypothesis that the presence of one Mg2+ ion could enhance the interaction in the complex by decreasing free energy, therefore increasing the affinity. Moreover, we propose 3, 5-DCQA as an important pharmacophore in the rational design of new antiretroviral drugs.
