The book, which illustrates the evolution of architectural and urban shape of the city of Venice, from the legendary origins of the settlement in the lagoon until the end of the Venetian Republic, is designed as a historical atlas in which a history of Egle Renata Trincanato is accompanied by 38 color plates with plants of the Forma Urbis divided into thematic sections (religious buildings, public buildings and works of urbanization, “patrizi” and “cittadineschi” palaces, bourgeois and popular houses, collective buildings settle aroud yards and multiple and drawn up constructions) accompanied by 1780 cards for buildings identified topographically in the plants themselves.

The paper is about the methods of study the architecture and also the developing and expanding of... more The paper is about the methods of study the architecture and also the developing and expanding of a city devising and utilizing by Egle Trincanato from the late ’30 of the last century and then in 1971 with reference to Venice.
The author, professor Corrado Balistreri, thinks that those two methods of studing architecture and city’s development could be apply to others cities too.
The paper explains and tries to schematize how those methods are and in which rules they consist, so that also russian architects and scholars could be able to analyse with an historical sight their cities to protect them.
As matter of fact all around the world, so as in Italy, the lack of knowledge, in the past as well in the present, has been produced and caused the ruin of many build-ings or whole sections of towns and cities, evidences of the history and also of the lo-cal art of making buildings.
