Welcome, true gamers, to the Gamer Games Game Jam!

The purpose is to show off our true gamer cred by designing TTRPGs and TTRPG materials based on our favorite video games!

Write a love letter to a childhood favorite! Try and capture the gameplay loop of that series that keeps you up too late at night! Use your favorite games as a springboard to make games of your own.

Whether you make a new game, use the jam to promote an old one, or to build momentum for a future one, this game's open to all True Gamers!

The rules are simple.

  1. NO ASSHOLE STUFF. No homophobia, ableism, racism, sexism, cissexism, harassment, or other asshole stuff for jerks! Bigotry is just plain not okay, and if it takes a rules entry in a half-joking game jam to inform you of this, we got problems, you and I.
  2. LISTEN TO PEOPLE. If someone tells you your game has the abovementioned asshole stuff in it, instead of digging your heels in, listen to what they have to say. Recognize that it's often hard to see when you've ventured into the realm of asshole stuff, and take the L. Try and make edits if you can!
  3. TELL US YOUR INSPIRATION. When you submit, there's a question there - let us know what game inspired your work so other fans can see it!
  4. NO VIDEO GAMES. This is for games based on video games, not for video games!
  5. ANYTHING (TABLETOP) GOES. Whether it's a whole game, a class or expansion for another game, an itchfunding project, or an asset pack - as long as it's a tabletop product, it's good to go!
  6. CAREFUL WITH ASSETS. Please make sure you have the rights to use everything in your product! Taking inspiration from a video game is fair use, but directly using assets isn't.

On this last note - recently, a very promising videogame-inspired project was pulled, not because it had violated copyright, but because it was brigaded by people who thought it had, and who felt like they were "defending" a AAA game studio. This kind of behavior is ludicrous, obviously, but it does happen!

If you find yourself the victim of brigading or harassment, take care of yourself first.  This jam is like, half joke, and not worth sacrificing your mental health for.
