Sometimes liberty can be found through limitation. 1-Bit Weekend aims to free you from the constraints of endless possibility by challenging you to work with a bounded visual aesthetic. What do we mean by 1-bit? For this jam, pick any two colors you'd like and make whatever you'd like with them -- we're not requiring you to stick to black and white or any specific hardware limitations -- just build to web if you can, as that will increase the chances that your game actually gets played. Feel free to work solo or on a team!
This jam runs June 18th 2020 at 10:00 PM PT to June 21st 2020 at 9:59 PM PT, and you can submit at any time during the jam. Please create all content (music, sound fx, art) during the jam. You are allowed to reuse code for the tedious bits like camera, collisions, etc. If you're not able to do adhere to this rule, please make sure to note which assets were not developed during the jam. It's totally cool to use whatever engine you want.
Voting will run from the end of the jam to the 25th. Have I said the word "jam" enough yet?
UPDATE: By request, we've set up a Discord server so you all can collaborate, discuss, and form teams. Sorry for setting this up a bit late!
We'll be offering prizes for the top three entrants, as ranked by your fellow contestants. Note that we'll be issuing these as Amazon gift cards to keep it simple (we can likely only send these to US residents, but we might be able to find a way otherwise).
Due to popular demand (see the Discord) we ARE going to enforce a theme. You can pick from any of the three below or use all three (or two, or whatever you want to do). There WILL be a grading category for whether or not you utilized at least one theme below:
If you'd like to check out an example of a (mostly) 1-bit game made by yours truly, check out our ongoing project Aspect Arcade!
