The paper focuses on key features of this environment. The coastal environment of southern Corfu and its correspondent cultural landscape, understood through its fishing grounds, coast-linked inland villages, wetlands, estuaries, salt marshes and fish farms, as well as via traditions and other aspects of the local communities’ collective memory, form the core of the “Petritis and South Corfu eco-museum”, which was planned within the FISH & CHIPS project.

methodological issues and historical synthesis
The present study focuses on methodological issues regarding the
interpretation of the ceramic densities recorded on the surface during
the intensive archaeological field survey of the years 2007-2011, οn
Therasia island. The Therasia project combined methods of surface field
survey, geological and geophysical research and parallel excavation at
one of the sites, aiming at the integration of different types of data in the
study of the historic landscape. The paper discusses methodological
and interpretive issues concerning the distribution of surface ceramics
and their relation to architectural remains on the surface and the
subsoil, focusing on individual chronological periods and topographic
zones. The aim is to understand changes in the landscape over time
and assess local conditions at the micro-area level and in relation
to neighboring Thera and the wider context of the Cyclades and the
Aegean.
