If there is one thing we humans love doing, it's collecting. Coins, seashells, stamps, baseball cards, vintage artwork-you name it, we hoard it. Some people see it as a hobby, while others build rooms or create special places in their homes to showcase their fascination with accumulating objects they're interested in. But there's a whole other category of people who undertake the challenge of finding the rarest and most extraordinary items from every corner of the world.

How Shirley wrote her book, Inside the Head of a Collector: Neuropsychological Forces at Play
Evelyn Fortune was the first wife of Eli Lilly (1885-1977), the older son of Josiah Lilly, Sr. (1861-1948) and grandson plus namesake of Colonial Eli Lilly (1838-1898), the founder of the pharmaceutical firm. She was born a Fortune in Indianapolis in 1887 and married Eli Lilly (1885-1977) in 1907. Thereby she became the first Mrs. Eli Lilly before Ruth Allison Lily (1891-1973) who married Eli Lilly in 1927. It is the latter that the present Indianapolis community associates with Eli Lilly as his spouse.
grandson and namesake of Colonel Eli Lilly, the founder of the Indianapolis pharmaceutical firm. During Evelyn Fortune’s nearly twenty-year marriage to Eli Lilly, she was prominent in the Indianapolis community and left a legacy all her own.
Mr. Lilly largely formed the Chinese collection now housed in the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
The subject of this article however, Eli Lilly, was looking for something different. Rather than a fine display of riches, he wanted to create harmony, a place of rest and peace for himself and his wife, Ruth plus others. His vision and its' execution is the thrust of this article.
