However, its implementation in Indonesia still faces some challenges regarding students’ readiness and competencies in realizing such concept. Thus, this study is aimed to investigate gender-based perceptions and attitudes among EFL Indonesian students on learner autonomy. Qualitative design in which four out of twenty respondents were selected purposively under the rationale that they demonstrated positive evidences reflected to the preliminary questionnaire results. Using semi-structured interview, the findings indicated no gender-based discrepancy in terms of learning experiences and challenges. Although individual tasks were preferred by both groups, problem-solving strategies differ in which females employed internal strategies (rescheduling and self-commitment), while males employed external strategies (learning sources and collaborative works). In reality, the teachers still employ to focus on their teaching and learning process on the lower-order thinking phase. The study aims at investigating the learning objectives formulated by the EFL teachers as a result of Computer-Based National Examination (CBNE) and EFL teachers' strategies to promote thinking skills of the students influenced by the CBNE results. Two instruments namely interview and observations were employed to gain the data from three EFL teachers in a state vocational high school in Kupang. The data obtained were analysed qualitatively. The study revealed that the participants have already embedded the thinking skills process both in their lesson plans and the assessment and evaluation as a result of CBNE. The participants employed various teaching methods, technics and questioning activities to promote the thinking skills of the students which project or problem-based learning are considered an important approach to promote thinking skills of the students. The thinking skills are a simultaneous process which needs time and effort of the teachers in implementing the teaching and learning process. The result of CBNE has significantly affected the EFL teachers since they promote thinking skills process since the first semester and follow the phase of Anderson's taxonomy simultaneously. Further research needs to explore the EFL teachers' strategies to promote students' thinking skills oriented to the monologue-based questions.
