Gender equity in education generates a push force that accelerates progress across sectors and goals; thus sustainable development. Gender equality constitutes central position in both national and international programmes as an accelerator for achieving development. Women’s place in national development appears subordinated. Thus, this study examined gender equity in education in Nigeria and the impact on national development. Specifically, the study sought to determine the degree of women access to education, ascertain the impact of women education on socio-economic development and determine the factors that constitute barriers to women education in Nigeria. The study discovered that educated women serve as stabilizing factor in national development and recommended ‘soft competition technique’ as the approach that will grant women the needed equity in national development in Nigeria.

While life expectancy will continue to improve owing to the domestic humanitarian improvement, proxy-policy influence on the sub-Saharan African nations [Nigeria included] by the United Nations and other developed nations, the ageing population will continue to increase making it more or less policy imperative among the nations within this region. Among other things, public health policy occupies the most important position in the web of policy approach to the needs and care for the aged. In the light of the above, the present paper investigated the realities of public health policy outcome [1988 to 2016], as it affects the ageing populations via public health facilities and health packages for the aged. 600 retirees of public institutions from southeast Nigeria were involved in the study, which adopted survey design and modified random sampling techniques. In view of the substantive issues of the study, less than 25% of the respondents go for regular medical checkups and self-healt...

The utility of International Public sector accounting Standards (IPSAS) in achieving transparency and accountability in the public sector accounting has been established. The motivation for the study was that in Nigeria, transparency and accountability of public sector officials have been seriously lacking and IPSAS was seen as a panacea to achieving the twin virtues. This study examines whether the implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) has achieved public sector transparency and accountability in Nigeria since its adoption in 2014. A qualitative survey of the agencies in the 5 states of south east Nigeria was carried out and analysis done using analytical discourse technique. We found out that the extent of the implementation of IPSAS in Nigeria has not achieved transparency and accountability in the public sector, in Nigeria. We find that political will, use of accrual bases of accounting and internet facilities are the underlying factors for a...

This paper examines the effect of inter-agency delivery systems on the agility of public sector organizations and ease of doing business. The empirical focus is the Nigerian public sector, in relation to the implications of the recent Executive Order regarding how Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) should operate towards improving the ease of doing business .The study finds that poor inter-organizational linkages in terms of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and poor interagency collaborative structures constitute serious challenges to the realization of organizational agility and ease of doing business. By implication, the study reveals that the use of Executive Orders to address fundamental economic and administra...

AbstractOn March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) upgraded the status of the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19 outbreak, from epidemic to pandemic. Ever since then, the world has been reeling from the catastrophic spread of the virus. Consequently, Nigeria rolled out a couple of measures to reduce the spread of the virus in the country in keeping with WHO guides. In addition, the Federal Government and most States in the Federation declared lockdown in the state and closure of states and national borders. Citizens including the poorest of the poor were required to stay at home. The Federal and State governments promised palliatives to cushion the harsh effect of the lockdown. It is however disturbing that while the people remained at home hungry the palliatives were not only slow in coming but haphazardly and unwholesomely implemented. The study investigated the effectiveness and interrogates the template used in distributing the palliatives to the poor. It is also part of the objective of the paper to find out how politics and data affected the implementation of the palliatives meant to alleviate the pains of the lockdown associated with COVID-19. The study used qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing robust data from official documents. The results showed that the templates used in the distribution of the palliatives were highly ineffective and that inadequate data base and politics negatively impacted on the implementation of the palliatives meant for the poor. The study recommended among others that for strategic reasons ,sufficient and disaggregated data should be generated, updated, and stored for future use in Nigeria for the purpose of bringing the warmth of governance to all who are in need.

Occupational Health and Safety Management is an area that is concerned with ensuring the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work. Workers in paramilitary organisations in Nigeria are much more likely than their counterparts in other agencies to be exposed to poor working environments, health and environmental hazards.
