Exploration in search of the tomb of Sultan Suleiman I and the buildings around it in the vicinit... more Exploration in search of the tomb of Sultan Suleiman I and the buildings around it in the vicinity of Szigetvar, Baranya county, southern Hungary, has been going on for some one hundred years and on a number of sites (on the banks of Almas stream, at St. Mary’s Church in Turbek). On the basis of newly discovered documents and map representations, the authors have carried out a reinterpretation of earlier known sources and have abstracted from these information appropriate for a renewed geographical identification of the site of the tomb. The results have been construed in a reconstructed end-17th-century landscape using geoinformation methods. Identification of the Ottoman settlement at Turbek, which can be associated with the construction of the Sultan’s turbe (tomb), was made possible through the collection of finds on the surface of the archaeological site at the Turbek vineyard, the increased intensity of finds and through geophysical examination. The Pannonian basin has been a favourable site for hot water utilisation in spas since the mediev... more The Pannonian basin has been a favourable site for hot water utilisation in spas since the medieval ages. Deliberate drilling activity started already more than a century ago and Hungary has become soon a center of balneological teraphy in Central Europe. The increasing interest for wellness resorts and mainly geothermal energy prospects has initiated recently the first systematic survey in the western Pannonian basin. The regional scale of the survey and access to a wealth of drillhole and seismic data led to the elaboration of novel research strategy. The Pannonian basin formed by rifting, major extension and subsidence of an Alpine orogenic terrain during the Middle Miocene. In the Late Miocene to Pliocene postrift period it was a big lake, which has been filled up by clastic materials transported by big rivers. The term "Big Data" is commonly used to describe the growing mass of information being ... more The term "Big Data" is commonly used to describe the growing mass of information being created recently. New conclusions can be drawn and new services can be developed by the connection, processing and analysis of these information. This affects all aspects of life, including health and medicine. The authors review the application areas of Big Data, and present examples from health and other areas. However, there are several preconditions of the effective use of the opportunities: proper infrastructure, well defined regulatory environment with particular emphasis on data protection and privacy. Stroke is the third leading cause of death worldwide (following cardiovascular and cancer mortali... more Stroke is the third leading cause of death worldwide (following cardiovascular and cancer mortality) and associated with serious disability for the vast majority of patients. There is no salvage therapy for irreversibly damaged brain areas, improving the circulation of the surrounding hypoperfused areas may be associated with beneficial clinical effects. Cerebral hypoperfusion may play a role in the pathogenesis of other kind of neurological diseases, improvement of global circulation may have a preventive effect on these conditions. The aim of our study was to review the experimental and clinical articles focusing on the role of vinpocetin in different neurological conditions. Vinpocetin appears to have several different mechanisms of action that allow for its antiinflammatory, antioxidant, vasodilating, antiepileptic and neuroprotective activities in experimental conditions. On the other hand, several meta-analysis of the existing studies in acute stroke examining short and long term fatality rates with vinpocetin was unable to assess efficacy. In chronic cerebrovascular patients, vinpocetin improves impaired hemorheologic variables, has significant vasodilating properties, improves endothelial dysfunction, neuroimaging studies showed selective increase in cerebral blood flow and cerebral metabolic rate, all of which are potentially beneficial in cerebrovascular disease and may improve cognitive functions. Based on the above mentioned results, vinpocetin plays an important role both in basic research and in clinical management of different neurological diseases.

Prenatal diagnosis of fetal trisomies is usually performed by cytogenetic analysis from amniotic ... more Prenatal diagnosis of fetal trisomies is usually performed by cytogenetic analysis from amniotic fluid. This requires lengthy laboratory procedures and high costs and is unsuitable for large-scale screening of pregnant women. An alternative method, which is rapid and inexpensive and may potentially be suitable for diagnosing trisomies even from single fetal cells, is the fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (F-PCR) using polymorphic small tandem repeats (STRs). In this paper we present data demonstrating that fluorescent PCR amplification of STRs can be used for rapid diagnosis of trisomy 21, trisomy 18, and trisomy 13 and can be successfully applied to both prenatal diagnosis and diagnosis of single cells. This study also reports significant numbers of prenatal diagnoses using quantitative fluorescent PCR. We believe that further studies of greater numbers of samples will determine the absolute reliability of this technique. These results also provide a model for trisomy diagnosis...

This work presents a framework that supports modeling and model checking such systems. We adapted an existing formalism to provide better modeling and model checking support. Using this formalism, we extended a k-induction based model checking approach: we defined a procedure to handle both safety and liveness properties, and developed methods to find invariants. We implemented a toolchain for this workflow and evaluated our methods in an industrial case study.

However, their application in industry is always cumbersome: the lack of experts and the complexity of formal languages prevents the efficient application of formal verification techniques. In this paper we take a step in the direction of making formal modelling simpler by introducing a framework which helps designers to construct formal models efficiently. Our formal modelling framework supports the development of traditional transition systems enriched with complex data types with type checking and type inference services, time dependent behaviour and timing parameters with relations. In addition, we introduce a toolchain to provide formal verification. Finally, we demonstrate the usefulness of our approach in an industrial case study.

Our assumption is that if the amount of debt cannot cause any change of share- holder's value, then the two kinds of decisions can be separated. But the e ect of borrowing money is so arborescent, that the specifics could only be cached, represented in the Capital As- set Pricing Model's (CAPM) word. With our novel approach we would also like to show a simple and widely useable tutorial method.

In both cases, absent spleen, symmetric liver, and lungs with three lobes were associated with complex cardiac malformation. The syndrome was diagnosed prenatally in the second case by fetal echocardiography at the twentieth week of pregnancy. The autosomal recessive mode of inheritance of Ivemark syndrome is further supported by these cases.

Pearson syndrome is a multisystem juvenile condition associated with deletions in the mitochondri... more Pearson syndrome is a multisystem juvenile condition associated with deletions in the mitochondrial genome. The most common 4977 bp deletion of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can mainly be detected in the patients' peripheral blood. Here we report a child with a clinically unclarified diagnosis where molecular genetic results proved Pearson syndrome from stored dried blood sample 6 months after the patient's death. PCR amplification around the breakpoint of the most common mtDNA deletion could detect the presence of mutated mtDNA. Another polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay indicated the low level of wild type mtDNA in patients' blood. We believe that this case shows the importance of storing Guthrie card and the availability of detection of Pearson syndrome from dried blood sample.

The parental origin of the additional chromosome can, if required, be determined by two methods: karyotyping, which takes several weeks; or, more recently, by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) which is often problematic. Fluorescent PCR of small tandem repeats (STRs) can determine the parental origin in the majority of cases within 5 h. Although the incidence of paternal origin is known for both trisomy 21 and trisomy 18, this technique can rapidly determine the parental origin in cases where there is insufficient samples to perform conventional tests. Determining parental origin by these methods may also have clinical significance in the diagnosis of chromosomal translocations or in the diagnosis of genetic disease using linkage analysis.
