Farmers working in the fields are at various risks like snake bite, injuries sustained from agricultural equipment, inhalation of pesticides, electrocution and lightening injuries. In a thunderstorm and rainy season, person working in an open area and that too in a farm, is at utmost risk of getting electrocuted from lightening injury due to less insulation to the electric current in the wet surrounding. Metallic heavy agricultural machineries, irrigated fields and lack of awareness are other factors that makes one prone to get stroked by a lightening arc. Case History:Atwenty-three-year-old male farmer was found dead while working in the fields of rice in the afternoon. As per the family he went for cultivating seedlings of rice plants in the fields full of water. He was taken to the emergency department of our facility where he was declared brought dead after initial examination and re...

Many materials can be used in making up of a bomb individually or when mixed with some other chemical. The type of explosive that gets misused most commonly are those used in manufacturing and other commercial applications due to their easy accessibility to public. Improper handling and inattentive behavior toward the explosives can lead to disastrous circumstances. Here we report such a case in which a 30-year-old male took rocks of potassium sulphate (called Gandhak Potash in the local vernacular language) and struck them with a metallic pestle, which triggered an explosion. The distal phalanges of both hands were found traumatically amputated. Stippling e ect due to unburnt powdered explosive substance were present over the head, face, chest, and anteromedial aspect of legs. He died within few hours after the blast. Di erent type of mechanical injuries and injuries to the internal organs can be sustained over the body due to e ects of explosion as we've seen in our case, that is, abrasion, contusion, lacerations, fractures, burn injury and such pattern of injury, and speci c injuries sustained due to pressure e ect like blast lung along with circumstantial evidence helps in deciding the manner of death.

The cause of death in a case of electrocution are many depending on the organ system it affects like nervous system, cardiovascular system and thermal injury to the body. However, when it comes to decide the manner of death, the type, pattern and distribution of injury over the body along with the circumstantial evidences collected helps in designating the manner of death as suicidal, homicidal or accidental. The authors discussed here three cases of electrocution with three different manners of death. The type of burns sustained over the body and the area affected are related with the manner of death in tabulated form. Most of the electric injuries sustained at home, are accidental in manner. However, suicidal cases by the electrical injuries are not uncommon but rarely homicidal.

Conclusion:Meticulous examination and sceptical eye of autopsy surgeon, meteorological department report, reconstruction of events and findings over the body can converge upto the cause and manner of death.

The objectives of a medicolegal autopsy are various depending on case to case which varies from establishing the identity of deceased to detect the any disease, injury or permanent physiological and pathological changes in the body that leads to death. But the medicolegal autopsy is not always concluding the main objective of it which is cause of death and such autopsies are categorised as obscure and negative autopsy. Acknowledgement of incidence of negative autopsy to the practicing forensic pathologist is necessary. We are discussing here some autopsies conducted by the author(s) after which the final scientific cause of death could not be ascertained. In this article, the steps to follow are discussed once an autopsy is designated as obscure or negative autopsy. The algorithm-based approach toward the determination of cause of death and importance of other circumstantial evidences has been discussed.

However, it often become difficult to identify the type of weapon causing the injury as various different type of injuries may simulate each other. Here we present one such unusual case of a blunt trauma penetrating wound simulating a firearm wound taking into consideration the physical process that takes place during the injury sustained. Here we will discuss the process of injury sustained due to blunt force is in accordance with the tissue-force interaction of firearm wound. The injury sustained over the tissue does not depend upon the type of weapon but on the tissue-force interaction that includes type of tissue, plasticity of tissue, dynamics of point of contact of weapon, force generated by the weapon and energy produced during the tissue-force interaction.

Autopsy findings reveal gross laryngeal oedema with narrowing of the air passage. The burn injuries involved about 8 % of the total body surface area. The person suffered from inhalation injuries along with burn injuries. Inhalational injuries are not easy to diagnose and a clear suspicion of their presence plays a significant role in determining the survival of burn patient. A thorough literature review brought forth the fact that laryngeal oedema and inhalational injuries can be a delayed complication of burn injury and timely intubation could save patient's life. Incidence of laryngeal oedema, clinical features of inhalational injuries and priorities in inhalational injuries research are discussed in the paper with review of literature.
