In practice, too much overdesign and an overload of technical specifications, which are in many cases contradictive, have created a substantial CAPEX increase. The big question nowadays is: "How to bring down the CAPEX of projects and create healthy and sustainable upstream projects for the coming future?" The industry calls for a cost reduction, which is often translated into a "standardized approach". But how should an operator approach standardized processes and equipment, while a fit-for-purpose design seems necessary to cope with different field conditions?
