The finds of the Seima-Turbino artifacts were recorded in the Odinovskaya culture burials of the Tartas-1, Preobrazhenka-6, Markovo-2 sites and such Krotovskaya culture sites as Chernoozerie-VI, Vengerovo-2, Abramovo-10, Sopka-2/4B, V, Rostovka. The basis of the Seima-Turbino casting set is made up of crucibles and molds. The Odinovskaya and Krotovskaya cultures masters used two main types of crucibles. The first one is composite, a clay rim fixed on a fragment of ceramics, forming an oval or drop-shaped container. The second is a thick-walled flatbottomed drop-shaped cup made from a single lump of clay. A stable correlation of the first type crucibles with forms and products made in the Seima-Turbino style was revealed. Distribution of composite crucibles occurred a...

This article presents the burials studied at the archaeological site of the Linevo-1 century. Similar finds were made at other sites of the late Irmenian culture: the settlement of Mylnikovo (Barnaul Ob region), Yeltsovskoe-2, Milovanovo 3 (Novosibirsk Ob region); Om-1, Chicha-1 (Baraba) settlement; ritual complex Siberian I (middle Irtysh region). Such burials have been known since the 1980s, but in Western Siberia the problem of ‘special burials’ in archaeology attracted the attention of researchers only at the beginning of the 21st century, especially the excavations of the Chicha-1 monument. Results. Three objects were recorded on Linevo-1. Burial 1 was found in chamber 2 of dwelling 15, a child 7–10 years old. There is no grave pit. Laid on the left side, with an unnaturally bent spinal column, on the ground it was located with the face of the skull. The burial was accompanied by stone structures with jaws and bones of animals, fish, fragments of ceramics, with the bot...

The works of 2021 enrich our knowledge about the site and elucidate the individual features of material culture among its inhabitants. A fundamentally new pottery form - a bowl - has been observed in the pottery complex which belongs to the Pit-Comb Ware culture. A rare flattened bottom decorated in a typical manner of that culture as well as wall fragments with traces of distinctive smoothing and false textile imprints, and clear imprints of the walking comb stamp have become available. The remains of a ruined workshop for producing stone artifacts with 47 items which may be described as production waste, have been found. In addition, cores, often converted into tools (27 items), knife-like blades (14 items), and scr...

They were based on geophysical monitoring; excavations were carried out using the method of continuous opening of the object area. In five years, 2250 sq. m have been unearthed. A sanctuary of the Early Neolithic Baraba culture had a system ofpits, ditch, joint pits which among other things contained art objects, and pits intended for keeping and fermenting fish. Seventy nine burials have been studied (seven of the Artyn culture of the Final Neolithic, two of the Ust-Tartas culture of the Early Metal Age, fifty seven of the Odino culture of the Early and Advanced Bronze Age, eight of the Krotovo culture of the Advanced Bronze Age, one of the Iron Age, and four of unidentified time). During the excavations of 2021, the cultural layer revealed pottery fragments, various artifacts made of stone, clay, and bone, and two metal tools. Several utility pits with animal and fish bones also contained fragments o...

The authors argue that this site represents the first known cultic complex in Western Siberia.

The article presents a historiographical review of the problems of research of ancient ceramics from archaeological sites of East Asia in the chronological interval from 20,000–18,000 to 9,000 years ago. Results. The subject of discussion is the periodization of monuments with early ceramics, the problems of socio-economic conditions of the emergence of pottery technology, its functional role in ancient societies, reconstruction of technological skills and technical levels of pottery, morphology and decor. There are a lot of controversial issues and “blind spots” in this direction. However, the opening of sites with ancient ceramics in East Asia showed that here, on the Pacific (eastern) outskirts of the Eurasian continent, pottery making technology first appeared about 10,000 years earlier than in the Middle East. The invention of ceramics in this region of the world at the turn of the Pleistocene and Holocene should be considered as a result of a combination of natural an...

Based on the results of the study of materials of the Tartas-1 and Ust-Tartas-1 sites and radiocarbon dating, the article explores the Baraba culture of the early Neolithic era (VII thousand BC, entering the VIII and VI thousand BC). Results. The Neolithic parking lot, studied at Tartas-1, is represented by two structures, a smokehouse and a series of pits for storing fish. A significant number of finds from bone and stone have been found. The ceramic complex is of particular importance. These are flat-bottomed containers, made in the technique of orderly patchwork, using a molding cord on the top of the vessel, and roller-flow around the perimeter of the bottom. The ornament is represented by a complex plot of an asymmetrical composition. The stone industry is characterized as plate-like with a high value of linear technology. The absence of stone arrowheads is characteristic of this. Fish was harvested in pits. At different stages of operation, corpses of different animal...

Two main parameters for the analysis are dehydration and dehydroxylation, which are derived from the experiment as the values of mass loss at temperature interval from room temperature to 350 °C and from 350 to 600 °C. Three examples show how to use the mass-loss diagram for (1) the analysis of the material of a single pot; (2) comparison between different pots from the same archeological site, and (3) search for the source of clay for the manufacturing ancient ceramics.

We are interested in how the first pottery was made throughout western Eurasia, and particularly in links between technological, morphological and decorative traditions in different regions. We welcome contributions based on interdisciplinary research, using archaeological evidence, ethnoarchaeology and archaeological science, and addressing questions including:
Was the first pottery always technologically unelaborated? Was the chaîne opératoire of the first pottery determined by environmental constraints, economic and demographic factors, or the historical trajectory of the spread of pottery? Were early pottery forms based on existing container shapes or new functional requirements? How significant is decoration in explaining the spread of the earliest pottery in Eurasia? How were different aspects of ceramic production (technology, morphology and decoration) changed or maintained while pottery was dispersed?
