In Pakistan various public institutions like Banks, Schools, Colleges, Universities, Hospitals, Courts and different financial sectors are playing pivotal role for the development of economy. Moreover human resources are considered an important asset of any institution. This paper aims to explore the impact of different rewards like salary, long term incentives, short term incentives, payment, working condition and different benefits granted to the employees as the work compensation on their motivation to increase the performance and productivity of the organization. Both primary and secondary data is used to draw the conclusions.
This paper traces different historical concepts about the compensation and the work motivation of employees. Findings show that there is a deep and strong relationship between the compensation and the motivation of the employees working for the better productivity of organization. Both intrinsic and extrinsic compensation are compulsory to motivate the employees. Almost 70% public organizations are using compensation packages for the job satisfaction and motivation of their employees. For many employees, non-monetary rewards are more important as compare to salaries paid to them. Salaries, incentives, wages, working conditions, health care facilities, child schooling, retirement plans, and insurance facilities are the major component of compensation plans. In public sectors of Pakistan, different compensation packages granted to the employees working in various organizations have positive impact on the work motivation of employees. But findings show that the results are not so much good as expected. There is a need of reforms in public sectors to get the fruitful results through these compensation packages.
