It shows some areas where the sinkholes appear to be sporadic and, on the contrary, other areas that are particularly affected by sinkholes. These events can cause considerable damage when it occurs in an urban areas or in areas with infrastructural networks. For years, the Lazio Region conducted studies on sinkholes in order to define the prone areas to this phenomenon. This study involved the use of cartographic sources, historical documentation, as well as field trips, in order to construct an inventory of the sinkhole cases in the region, as well as to identify the sinkhole prone areas. The inventory allowed to frame each of the sinkhole case within the geological and hydrogeological scenario, as well as the surrounding vegetation and degree of urbanization, in which it occurred. Correlations were also performed with the tectonic and structural trends, and with some triggering factor, such as earthquakes. Some predisposing variables to sinkhole phenomena are then selected. The application of multivariate logistic regression and geospatial analyses allows the selection of the most significant factors, as well as their optimal weights used to construct a sinkhole susceptibility map of the Latium Region at the 1:250000 scale. The identification of the susceptibility grade of the sinkhole prone areas will help to establish a rule for the use of all these areas, based on the risk level.

Four cycles of experimental feeding using normal fish feed formulation (control group) supplemented with Ergosan (0.5%) or Macrogard (0.1%) were performed at 60-day intervals (15 days of treatment+45 days of suspension). Serum complement, lysozyme, total proteins and heat shock protein (HSP) concentrations were measured at 15, 30 and 45 days from the end of the first 15-day feeding cycle (short term) and 45 days after the end of each feeding cycle over a 35-week period (long term). The percentage of B- and T-lymphocytes in peripheral blood leucocytes and gut were measured over long-term trial. Significant elevation (P < 0.05) in serum complement activity occurred in sea bass fed with alginic acid and glucans, at 15 days from the end of first cyc...

Sixty healthy fish (11.0 ± 3.2 Kg weight; 117.8 ± 8.6 cm total length) were randomly captured from 600 m3 concrete tanks and sampled from April to June. Blood samples were analyzed for the following 22 biochemical parameters using standard clinical methods: cortisol, glucose, lactate, non esterified fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol, albumin, creatinine, urea, total bilirubin, total protein, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium and chloride. Biochemical values were found to be consistent with data from the parental species A. naccarii. Cortisol, cholesterol, albumin, urea, total bilirubin, CK, LDH and magnesium were significantly affected by sampling time and the differences are probably related to sexual maturation of the fish. Blood chemistry analyses afforded an accurate evaluation of sturgeons’ health status, also providing information on their reproductive conditions. Evidence resulting from cortisol and lactate values indicated that pre-sampling operations, including capture and confinement of these large-sized fish, must be carefully managed in order to minimize handling stress. This study provides knowledge on blood chemistry of hybrid sturgeon A. naccarii × A. baerii and the results corroborate the validity of the test panel performed in evaluating the physiological functions of sturgeons. Reference values for 22 biochemical parameters were identified for the purpose of evaluating health and welfare in cultured sturgeons.
