One of the emerging trends in the supply chain management is the realization that long term strategic and operational partnerships among the players in the supply chain (SC) through combination of various appropriate coordination mechanisms are very essential for improving the performance, responsiveness and also to achieve satisfaction among members of the SC. In this paper, various issues and coordination mechanisms in the different areas of SC coordination presented in the recent works are reviewed. These issues dealt in the earlier works are related to operations, pricing, information sharing, technology, and disruptions. Each issue can be classified in to various sub issues or different categories. We have done the same and tried to analyze its importance from literature. Finally, the summary of findings as well as the areas of future research to be focused is also provided.

Measurement uncertainty and error in metrology of the basic proposition is frequently used measurement tester’s important concept. It has a direct bearing on the reliability of measurement results and the exact same value transfer. Quality statements for calibrated measuring instruments give the systematic error and the uncertainty of measurement at the moment of calibration. In contrast to this, the statement of conformity for verified measuring instruments indicates whether or not the error limits on verification specified by law are met. The conformity assessment is based on the result of a previous calibration. Calibration uncertainty thus becomes an uncertainty of conformity decision. In this study five years’ test and verification data of working standards such as non-automatic weighing instrument, weight measures, and volumetric measures were analyzed. Regression analysis has also been done to understand and predict time variance of error. This study also investigates how to ...

In the Indian higher education sector, the impetus has been always on the inputs to the system based on the prevalent market demands. The programmes are all designed based on the existing rules and regulations. There is little emphasis given to the evaluation of various programmes based on its overall cost, which is an essential requirement to make the system cost-efficient. The present study is conducted to address this gap in the Indian higher education system. The research is exploratory in nature, trying to understand the cost associated with selected programmes in a University. An attempt is made to make a relative cost- benefit analysis of different programmes offered in the University in order to arrive at conclusions regarding the operational efficiency of the ongoing programmes. At a later stage, this analysis can assist in establishing benchmarks for various programmes offered in Indian higher education sector. Findings of the study could be useful to educational administr...

The impact of Information Technology on individuals, organization and society is changing everything. The extent of technological revolution that the world is presently witnessing is that Information Technology has become the vehicle or major engine of the information age which has reduce the world to a global village. This new technological epoch is apparent through the intensified investment in computer-processing and data preparation appliance in the manufacturing and service industry and telecommunications infrastructure, and its widespread usage in government agencies, educational organizations, and, more recently, in the households. Owing to these technological progressions, the implementation and application of Information Technology is a significant driving force behind many socioeconomic changes. The Implementation and the subsequent use of IT is a process of interrelated steps, slipping at any of the implementation stages may actually increase inefficiency, ineffectiveness...

We explored the link between firm performance and forecasting, demographics of the key person, standardization practices, effect of training, learning and IT usage. Empirical testing of a model formed is done by a questionnaire survey conducted among the selected Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in India. Univariate tests indicate the significant influence of forecasting usage, type of forecasts, standardization, training and learning on SME performance. Combined influence on firm performance is analysed by means of a logistic regression model. Use of forecasting, standardization and learning orientation influenced the SME performance and take a role in classifying below and above performing firms. Less importance is given to training. Use of forecasting, standardization and training methods are to be improved. Features of above and below performers provide information to industry people. Conceptual and measurement models may give input to researches and may help to improve the e...

The implementation stage is usually a very critical step during the introduction of ERP systems. Although having many commonalities with other IS projects, ERP implementation projects differ in many ways from other projects by being so comprehensive from the organizational point of view. ERP implementation is a difficult and complex decision, system implementation doesn‘t mean installing software it is much more than a technology adoption. Rather it involves people issues more than technological issues. Research indicates that people issues are more to blame for the unsuccessful efforts of ERP implementations(11) .In this paper, identifying stakeholders is emphasized as a key definitive step during the process of ERP implementation and if done improperly, will lead to failure of the implementation project. The impact of stakeholder’s interests on the project’s decisions was already highlighted as a critical issue in success of the ERP implementation(2). Consequently the aim of this s...

This is an empirical study of industry practice in the management of software development risks. As we know, the revolution in information technology (IT) has ushered in significant changes to software engineering practices, as well as IT business models. These happenings have resulted in changes to software risk perception and risk management. While there are numerous studies on software risk, we need a thorough investigation of contemporary Industry practices to build a software risk management model that is practically useful. Based on an investigation of 145 software projects, we propose a model for risk management applicable to non-inhouse projects. We explain the distinctive features of our model in comparison with the existing literature on software risk. The model identifies the key focus areas of software risk management in offshored or outsourced projects in order to achieve the best outcome.

Logistics terminals must be planned to ensure an acceptable level of service to its customers in terms of waiting times and turnaround times, and for this terminal managements have to take decisions on many issues related to long term, medium term and short term planning. Modellers are often faced with the need for developing many models of the same terminal system for solving strategic, tactical and operational problems. Clustering problems and specifying categories of model elements during the conceptual modelling stage could lead to better structured models for problem solving. In this paper we discuss development of three types of model categories of terminal systems called Fixed Facility Focus models, Variable Facility Focus models and Transient Entity Focus models and explain their use to solve problems of strategic nature related to fixed facility, tactical problems related to variable facilities, and operational problems related to transient entities and their schedules.

In the twentieth century, as technology grew with it. This resulted in collective efforts and thinking in the direction of controlling work related hazards and accidents. Thus, safety management developed and became an important part of industrial management. While considerable research has been reported on the topic of safety management in industries from various parts of the world, there is scarcity of literature from India. It is logical to think that a clear understanding of the critical safety management practices and their relationships with accident rates and management system certifications would help in the development and implementation of safety management systems. In the first phase of research, a set of six critical safety management practices has been identified based on a thorough review of the prescriptive, practitioner, conceptual and empirical literature. An instrument for measuring the level of practice of these safety conduction a survey using questionnaire in ch...

This paper links SME performance, with the use of planning and demographics of key person. A model and research frame work has been developed to study the linkage between dependent (SME performance) and independent (use of planning) variables. Structured questionnaire schedule is developed, based on previous research works in this area. A survey is conducted among the representative firms (SMEs in rubber and plastic sector). Statistical test using SPSS and AMOS is conducted and the results are interpreted. Univariate and multivariate tests are used to test the hypotheses formed. Planning, standardization and IT usage by the firms are significantly influencing firm performance. The paper highlights the importance of planning to better the firm performance. For the SMEs to come fourth and to survive in this highly competitive and globalized environment, specific competencies of planning and IT usage are to be attained.

ABSTRACT While there are many studies conducted on software risk during the last two decades, very few have been published on software risk management practice in IT industry. In this paper we explore industry practice in the management of software development risks in outsourced software migration projects. We take the vendor perspective, post contract finalization. We conducted an online survey of 145 software projects executed by global IT vendors with process maturity of CMM Level 5. Based on this we built a statistical model relating software risk management factors with project outcome. An embedded case study of a large software migration project executed for a fortune 500 company was undertaken to check whether the model agrees with actual industry practice. The best practices and experiences from the project are also shared.

ABSTRACT Measurement is the act or the result, of a quantitative comparison between a given quantity and a quantity of the same kind chosen as a unit. It is for observing and testing scientific and technological investigations and generally agreed that all measurements contain errors. In a measuring system where both a measuring instrument and a human being taking the measurement using a preset process, the measurement error could be due to the instrument, the process or human error.
