Flora and Fauna is one of the inevitable ingredients of a Mahakavya. Kalidasa, who is praised for his poetic use of language, goes beyond mere description of nature. He integrates flora and fauna within the plot of his mahakavyas in various dimensions. This paper is an attempt to understand Kalidasa's use of flora and fauna in different facets in his mahakavyas. Here, Raghuvamsha and the first 8 cantos of Kumarasambhava have been taken up for study.
