They thus show their willingness to accept responsibility for international development. Basically, this entry in the donor role (or its significant expansion in the case of countries like China and India, which have already provided development aid in the past) is to be welcomed, even though the volume of aid in most cases remains small. Up to now, only China has assumed a truly important position among the New Donors. China does not publish its budget for developmental cooperation (DC). However, the European Union estimates it at 5 billion US dollars a year. India and Russia contribute about 100 million US dollars each, and all other New Donors contribute less than 10 million US dollars a year.

Die globalisierten Stakeholder schauen auf Bangladesch, und die Privatwirtschaft versucht, im Rahmen von Corporate-Social-Responsibility(CSR)-Masnahmen Nachhaltigkeitsaspekte zu bearbeiten. Die These des vorliegenden Beitrags lautet: Die bisherigen CSR-Ansatze sind zu starr und zu wenig interkulturell adaptionsfahig. Multiakteurpartnerschaften wie das Bundnis fur nachhaltige Textilien weisen in die richtige Richtung, bedurfen aber eines bewussten interkulturellen Managements, das die Interessen der globalen Stakeholder auf einen gemeinsamen Nenner ausrichtet.

For some time already, issues around business legitimacy have been discussed – although less so in scientific debates – under the header ‘corporate responsibility’ (‘corporate social responsibility, ‘corporate citizenship’ etc.). However, these discussions are subject to comprehensive global change. And important agents of the current dynamics of global change originate in the ‘Asian Drivers’ countries India and China. The future global business legitimacy discussion will be Indian and be Chinese to a much higher degree than most expect today. And today’s global crises, perceived by many as a failure of the western institutions of capitalism, catalyse this process. This study observes China. It looks at the Chinese models of legitimizing business action from the angle of the so far dominant OECD-led debate: is there significant variation between the practices of OECD...
