Gan Eiropā, gan citur pasaulē 20. gs. otrajā pusē sāka attīstīties jauno laiku arheoloģija, un tās pētniecības objekti hronoloģiski arvien vairāk tuvojas mūsdienām. Latvijā jauno laiku arheoloģija kā atsevišķa disciplīna vēl nav izveidojusies, bet ik pa laikam ir notikuši izrakumi dzīvesvietās, apbedījumu vietās vai kādreizējo ražotņu teritorijā, kuru izveidošanās un izmantošanas laiks attiecas uz 16.–19. gs. un dažreiz pat 20. gadsimtu. Rakstā apkopota informācija par līdz šim Latvijā notikušiem jauno laiku arheoloģijas pētījumiem un skaidrots, kāpēc un kurās senvietās veikti izrakumi, kādi ir to galvenie rezultāti, kādi materiāli ir savākti, kā arī dotas ziņas par nozīmīgākajām publikācijām.

Between the tiles found in Lithuania and Latvia are decorated with similar motifs - vegetative ornament and flowers. These ornaments can be divided into four groups. The first is the central symmetric composition where parts of plants are stylized diversely. Second – the motif of wallpaper, when the rim (an oval with pointed tip) with stylized flowers is endlessly repeated. Third - flower vase on the portal, and the fourth - bunch of flowers without a vase. It can be spoken about mutual influence of tile decoration in the adjacent countries as the works by local potters were widely prevalent within the territory of Latvia and Lithuania in the seventeenth century. This is reflected by the trays made by craftsmen in small Courland towns then and finder of waster found in the potter's workshop in Riga. However, the examples on the sources of decorating must be looked for in major European centers, which distributed new motives and compositions in distant parts of Europe. Therefore ...
