Following the influences of the Greco-Roman imperial age on the European aristocratic apparel of the second half of XVIIth century, this contribution aims to analyze both modern contaminations and antiquarian motifs present in Maria Kazimiera’s celebratory clothing with a special reference to the following case-studies: Maria Kazimiera’s medallion executed on the occasion of The Queen Widow’s visit to the

”La Bella svelata” is the outcome of the five-year research of the author, a specialist in the history of Italian Dress and hairstyles of Renaissance and Middle Ages. Focused on the sketch on vellum known as "La Bella principessa" recently attributed to Leonardo da Vinci by eminent scholars such as Prof. Martin Kemp, who has signed a lucid and articulate introduction to the volume, and Prof. Mina Gregori, the book surveys the whole set of elements ranging from clothing to cosmetics - including the particular blond shade as depicted in the drawing-painting - by contextualizing them in the milieu of the Sforza court at the turn of the fifteenth century and by precisely dating the sketch within the years 1493-97.
three centuries between the Renaissance and the Baroque. For each of them
it runs parallel to the historical one,a a different, fascinating
'Vestimentary biography' in which clothes and apparatuses, revive through documents and iconographic testimonies that tell us an 'other' story in which they are inventions and shapes to speak for them: the protagonists of a season as magnificent as ruthless of our history .
