Belgrade, Southwest and ... more The Republic of Serbia is divided into four tourism clusters: Vojvodina,
Belgrade, Southwest and Southeast Serbia. Tourism clusters are natural
regions and are important in terms of identifying potential for tourism
development, connecting stakeholders in tourism and the promotion of
Serbia as a tourist destination in the international market. Hotel sector
constitutes the material basis of tourism development, and hotel
innovation largely determines the quality of the tourist product clusters
and Serbia as a whole. The paper aims to empiricaly examines hotel
innovation depending on which tourism cluster the hotel is part of. The
sample consisted of 512 employees in 57 first, second and third-category
hotels in four tourism clusters. The results of the research suggest that
there are statistically significant differences in terms of hotel innovation,
wherein hotels within the Southeast Serbia tourism cluster proved to be
the most innovative.

The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of this event in the cultural enrichment of Ruma and Srem district, as well as the role of local events within Danube Region. Additionally, the focus of the research is the structure of the visitors and their attitudes regarding the event. Results presented in this study can serve as a guideline for further improving actions of "Christmas Street".

Most of these events have local or regional character. The event "Christmas Street" is the youngest event which is being organized in Ruma, the first time was held in late 2011. The subject of this paper is to study this event that complements the existing tourism offer of Ruma as potential tourist destination of Vojvodina. The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of this event in the cultural enrichment of Ruma and its surroundings as well as the development of event tourism and positive presentation of the Municipality of Ruma. The role of sport and recreation facilities in the hotel offer is becoming more significant nowadays.
By representing natural and material potentials of Novi Sad and analyzing the sport and recreation offer in the Novi Sad hotels, the goal of this paper is to point out to the degree of development of sport and recreation tourism and the opportunities for further development
by improving the sport and recreation offer of the Novi Sad hotels. A questionnaire was used in the research with 98 respondents. The research results have shown that only four hotels in Novi Sad offer sport and recreation facilities, therefore in the forthcoming period we should strive to expand the offer, introduce innovations, standardize and improve sport and recreation facilities, which would greatly contribute to the development
of Novi Sad as a sport and recreation tourism destination.

and human experiences which have typically rural character. It is the immersion of visitors in authentic, original and grassroots
experiences which are the essence of rural life. Rural accommodation combines different forms of tourism that showcase rural life, art,
culture and heritage in rural locations. The Tourism Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia defined four tourist clusters:
Vojvodina, Belgrade, South-Eastern Serbia, and South-Western Serbia. Tourism attractors (natural, cultural, and man-made) are
tourism sites or assets that are currently visited by tourists. Serbia hosts a large offer of natural resources and a great diversity of scenic
landscapes, from high mountains to valleys and plains. The Danube, which runs through Serbia for 588 km, with the Sava, the Tisza and
the Great Morava compose a dense river network, attractive for all water activities in summer and autumn. Biological diversity of
Serbia, both the ecosystem and species, is extremely high and attractive for tourism. Rural Tourism overnights represent 27% of total
tourism overnights in Serbia. Tourism in Serbia is expected to increase with 3% over the next five years. The same increase could be
expected for rural tourism. Implementation of master plans should add 8% to the growth of Rural Tourism.

the hotel employees in Novi Sad (Vojvodina Province, Serbia). For that purpose, we used service orientation scale,
developed by Dienhart et al. (1992) in Kim et al. (2005), and job satisfaction scale developed by Lytle (1994) in Kim
et al. (2005). Our assumptions were that there would be significant educational level differences in service orientation
and job satisfaction. It has been determined that there is a statistically significant difference in terms of educational
level in six of nine elements in service orientation. Service orientation through positive interaction with guests and
superiors, adequate training and established procedures in service business is highly correlated to job satisfaction of
hotel employees which is reflected in comfort on the workplace, enjoyment and satisfaction that the work offers. It is
of great importance for hotel management to have in mind that different educational level employees respond and
behave differently in respect of service orientation.

The paper presents contents, objects and events in terms of sports tourism in the government-owne... more The paper presents contents, objects and events in terms of sports tourism in the government-owned corporation ''Sport and Business Centre Vojvodinа'' (so called SPENS) in City of Novi Sad (Vojvodina Province, Serbia). The SPENS is one of the most important tourism center and leading provider of sports and business events in Serbia. We analyzed the attitudes of ¾ of the total number of employees in the sport’s sector of the SPENS about technical, technological, physical, organizational and human resource components of sport events. The results show that the SPENS is suitable for the planning and implementation of major sporting events and represents significant part of the tourism offer of City of Novi Sad. Over 60% of respondents believe that the SPENS is very important to raise the sport’s culture of the city. When it comes to sporting events variety of the SPENS, the highest percentage of employees evaluated this statement as good (3). Nearly 70% of respondents The study also suggests that the SPENS faces a number of problems which caused considerable dissatisfaction among employee lately.

The purpose of this paper was to study the most important intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors of job satisfaction in service sector in Serbia. Job satisfaction is very important issue in the service sector, regarding the fact that when the employees are satisfied with their jobs, they will give better service to their customers and in that way the level of customers satisfaction will increase as well. Job satisfaction theories were used as the basis for this research. Statistical techniques used in the study are descriptive statistics measures and statistical techniques of inference. Our overall conclusion is that employees in service organizations in Serbia are generally not satisfied with their jobs, and that there are opportunities for enhancement, but we have found no evidence of serious discontentment.

There is a growing interest and connection between natural and cultural heritage with a living societies, with the growing concern for nature and heritage preservation. Importance of tourism and the role of cultural tourism are becoming of strategic importance in global economy, especially in underdeveloped countries. This study examine the successful management practices in creation of culture based tourism destinations and applying their practices to undeveloped regions. Study is using principles and practices that are in-line with “eco-museum”, “cultural routes” and “cultural district” ideals, which break from traditional
approaches to heritage management and tourism use. The aim is to highlight the synergies between common philosophy and promotion, safeguarding and conservation of heritage and enhancing the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of local communities. Theoretical base of study is focused on principles of tourism valorization method applied on heritage complexes, sustainability indicators of tourism development and a survey conducted on a focus group of tourism experts engaged in Ibar Valley in Serbia, that enabled the quantitative results of the evaluation process. The aim is to highlight the synergies between landscape, heritage and festivals (living culture), trough safeguarding and conservation of heritage resources and tourism promotion.

Festivals are taking an increasingly more significant place among contemporary Serbian tourism pr... more Festivals are taking an increasingly more significant place among contemporary Serbian tourism products. They represent a unique visitor experience enabling the fulfillment of the wish to meet the Serbian culture, socialize, directly participate and entertain oneself. Also, festivals are an ever more significant factor in the selection of tourist destinations whose lure attracts millions of visitors in the course of the year. The objective of this study was to present the preferences and habits of food and drink festival visitors, identify the major factors that motivated visitors to attend the festivals as well as determine the factors which had a discouraging effect on non-regular visitors. A survey of 153 respondents was conducted from December 2011 to January 2012. This study used a survey instrument specially designed to answer which organization mode is the most acceptable for visitors and what is it that motivates or prevents them from attending such festivals. Results indicate that the lack of information on festival organization prevents nearly half of the respondents from visiting them. It has been also confirmed that the lack of free time has a negative impact on the number of visitors. The factor analysis singled out the products promoted on the festival, entertainment and escape from everyday life as the key factors influencing the visitors to attend such events. The presented findings have practical implications for food festival organizers to further attract food tourists.

The objective of ArchaeoGates project is to identify the cultural sites submerged under the Danub... more The objective of ArchaeoGates project is to identify the cultural sites submerged under the Danube, to collect and process the data to develop a database (Danube River Submerged Heritage D.A.R.S.H.), with the
possibility to extend it to include other river basins and/or lakes. The equipment used in the implementation of the project are side-scan sonar, seismic radar, scuba diver recognitions. For a tangible perception of the discovered cultural patrimony on the bottom of the river, 3D models and projections will be created: these reconstructions of the submerged sites will add an immeasurable value to the area and to the whole Danube Region. The case study is focusing on the Iron Gates area. The recovery of previously unexplored submerged cultural heritage will foster knowledge on cultural heritage and history of Europe, with the goal of preserving and promoting the value of the sites on local, regional, national and international level.

The article aims to discover whether and to what extent there is a relation between these three variables, drawing on theoretical approaches and a questionnaire conducted in Novi Sad in 2012/2013 on a sample of 149 respondents in companies involved in tourism (hotels, tourist agencies and restaurants). The results indicate that there are strong positive correlations between organizational commitment and the variables which measure job satisfaction, while job insecurity correlates negatively with the variables which describe job satisfaction and organizational commitment.

development. The sustainable tourism as an
emerging paradigm seems to enhance the existing
conceptual frameworks on tourism planning
and development by making the residents its
focal point. In that sense, opinions and attitudes
of residents on the protection of cultural heritage
and the possibilities of tourism development in
their environment are very important. The Danube
region in Serbia is recognized as a region
of high quality natural characteristics and cultural
resources which gives an outstanding opportunity
for tourism development. The purpose of the
study is to examine the current state of the heritage
management in the Danube region in Serbia
and to outline the tourism development potentials
of the area. The objective of the study is to examine
the role of the local communities in these
aspects. The methods used in the study were a
public opinion survey, a focus group interview of
12 experts and the evaluation of the sustainable
cultural tourism development indicators. The
results have shown that local population in the
Danube region in Serbia has, in general, a positive
opinion and initial enthusiasm when it comes
to tourism development, but their role is marginalized
in the process. This is the key proposition
to start an initiative for the local communities to
actively participate in tourism development.

The purpose of the study is to examine healthy eating habits of the population of Serbia through ... more The purpose of the study is to examine healthy eating habits of the population of Serbia through three
dimensions: knowledge, problems, and feelings as well as to determine whether there are any differences
between genders and among different age-groups. The research instrument was an Eating Habits Questionnaire
(EHQ) which consisted of 35 items. There were 382 respondents involved in the study. The
reliability and factor structure of the questionnaire were verified by using factor analysis. The results of
MANOVA showed that there is a significant difference in the habits concerning healthy eating between
men and women [F (3,378)=4.26, p=0.006; Wilks’ Lambda=0.97]. When the results for the dependent variables
(knowledge, problems, and feelings) were considered separately, it was determined that there is no
significant difference between men and women, which confirms the results of the t-test. The effect of age
on the three dimensions of healthy eating habits was examined within three age-groups, by using ANOVA.
The results showed that knowledge about healthy eating increases with age [F (2,379)=6.14, p=0.002] as
well as positive feelings which occur as a result of healthy eating [F (2,379)=3.66, p=0.027]. Unlike ANOVA,
MANOVA showed difference among the age-groups only when it came to the ‘knowledge’ variable. This
study is important as it shows the current state of awareness on healthy eating habits in the researched
populace and may be the basis for further research in this field in Serbia.

The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of this event in the cultural enrichment of Ruma and Srem district, as
well as the role of local events within Danube Region. Additionally, the focus of the research is the structure of the visitors and their attitudes regarding the event. Results presented in this study can serve as a guideline for further improving actions of "Christmas Street".

By representing natural and material potentials of Novi Sad and analyzing the sport and recreation offer in the Novi Sad hotels, the goal of this paper is to point out to the degree of development of sport and recreation tourism and the opportunities for further development
by improving the sport and recreation offer of the Novi Sad hotels. A questionnaire was used in the research with 98 respondents. The research results have shown that only four hotels in Novi Sad offer sport and recreation facilities, therefore in the forthcoming period we should strive to expand the offer, introduce innovations, standardize and improve sport and recreation facilities, which would greatly contribute to the development
of Novi Sad as a sport and recreation tourism destination.

experiences which are the essence of rural life. Rural accommodation combines different forms of tourism that showcase rural life, art,
culture and heritage in rural locations. The Tourism Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia defined four tourist clusters:
Vojvodina, Belgrade, South-Eastern Serbia, and South-Western Serbia. Tourism attractors (natural, cultural, and man-made) are
tourism sites or assets that are currently visited by tourists. Serbia hosts a large offer of natural resources and a great diversity of scenic
landscapes, from high mountains to valleys and plains. The Danube, which runs through Serbia for 588 km, with the Sava, the Tisza and
the Great Morava compose a dense river network, attractive for all water activities in summer and autumn. Biological diversity of
Serbia, both the ecosystem and species, is extremely high and attractive for tourism. Rural Tourism overnights represent 27% of total
tourism overnights in Serbia. Tourism in Serbia is expected to increase with 3% over the next five years. The same increase could be
expected for rural tourism. Implementation of master plans should add 8% to the growth of Rural Tourism.
the hotel employees in Novi Sad (Vojvodina Province, Serbia). For that purpose, we used service orientation scale,
developed by Dienhart et al. (1992) in Kim et al. (2005), and job satisfaction scale developed by Lytle (1994) in Kim
et al. (2005). Our assumptions were that there would be significant educational level differences in service orientation
and job satisfaction. It has been determined that there is a statistically significant difference in terms of educational
level in six of nine elements in service orientation. Service orientation through positive interaction with guests and
superiors, adequate training and established procedures in service business is highly correlated to job satisfaction of
hotel employees which is reflected in comfort on the workplace, enjoyment and satisfaction that the work offers. It is
of great importance for hotel management to have in mind that different educational level employees respond and
behave differently in respect of service orientation.

The aim is to highlight the synergies between common philosophy and promotion, safeguarding and conservation of heritage and enhancing the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of local communities. Theoretical base of study is focused on principles of tourism valorization method applied on heritage complexes, sustainability indicators of tourism development and a survey conducted on a focus group of tourism experts engaged in Ibar Valley in Serbia, that enabled the quantitative results of the evaluation process. The aim is to highlight the synergies between landscape, heritage and festivals (living culture), trough safeguarding and conservation of heritage resources and tourism promotion.

possibility to extend it to include other river basins and/or lakes. The equipment used in the implementation of the project are side-scan sonar, seismic radar, scuba diver recognitions. For a tangible perception of the discovered cultural patrimony on the bottom of the river, 3D models and projections will be created: these reconstructions of the submerged sites will add an immeasurable value to the area and to the whole Danube Region. The case study is focusing on the Iron Gates area. The recovery of previously unexplored submerged cultural heritage will foster knowledge on cultural heritage and history of Europe, with the goal of preserving and promoting the value of the sites on local, regional, national and international level.

The article aims to discover whether and to what extent there is a relation between these three variables, drawing on theoretical approaches and a questionnaire conducted in Novi Sad in 2012/2013 on a sample of 149 respondents in companies involved in tourism (hotels, tourist agencies and restaurants). The results indicate that there are strong positive correlations between organizational commitment and the variables which measure job satisfaction, while job insecurity correlates negatively with the variables which describe job satisfaction and organizational commitment.

emerging paradigm seems to enhance the existing
conceptual frameworks on tourism planning
and development by making the residents its
focal point. In that sense, opinions and attitudes
of residents on the protection of cultural heritage
and the possibilities of tourism development in
their environment are very important. The Danube
region in Serbia is recognized as a region
of high quality natural characteristics and cultural
resources which gives an outstanding opportunity
for tourism development. The purpose of the
study is to examine the current state of the heritage
management in the Danube region in Serbia
and to outline the tourism development potentials
of the area. The objective of the study is to examine
the role of the local communities in these
aspects. The methods used in the study were a
public opinion survey, a focus group interview of
12 experts and the evaluation of the sustainable
cultural tourism development indicators. The
results have shown that local population in the
Danube region in Serbia has, in general, a positive
opinion and initial enthusiasm when it comes
to tourism development, but their role is marginalized
in the process. This is the key proposition
to start an initiative for the local communities to
actively participate in tourism development.

dimensions: knowledge, problems, and feelings as well as to determine whether there are any differences
between genders and among different age-groups. The research instrument was an Eating Habits Questionnaire
(EHQ) which consisted of 35 items. There were 382 respondents involved in the study. The
reliability and factor structure of the questionnaire were verified by using factor analysis. The results of
MANOVA showed that there is a significant difference in the habits concerning healthy eating between
men and women [F (3,378)=4.26, p=0.006; Wilks’ Lambda=0.97]. When the results for the dependent variables
(knowledge, problems, and feelings) were considered separately, it was determined that there is no
significant difference between men and women, which confirms the results of the t-test. The effect of age
on the three dimensions of healthy eating habits was examined within three age-groups, by using ANOVA.
The results showed that knowledge about healthy eating increases with age [F (2,379)=6.14, p=0.002] as
well as positive feelings which occur as a result of healthy eating [F (2,379)=3.66, p=0.027]. Unlike ANOVA,
MANOVA showed difference among the age-groups only when it came to the ‘knowledge’ variable. This
study is important as it shows the current state of awareness on healthy eating habits in the researched
populace and may be the basis for further research in this field in Serbia.
