Such adaptivity, generally called adaptive parallelism, is important in a multi-user NOW environment, enabling the system to expand the computation onto idle nodes or withdraw from otherwise occupied nodes. We focus on task parallel applications in this paper, but the system also lets data parallel applications run adaptively. When an adaptation is requested, we let all processes complete their current tasks, then the system executes an extra OpenMP join-fork sequence not present in the application code. Here, the system can change the number of nodes without involving the application, as processes do not have a compute-relevant private process state. We show that the costs of adaptations is low, and we explain why the costs are lower for task parallel applications than for data parallel applications.

However, minimal research has explored the role of life skill development through school-based sport participation, specifically within international settings. In light of this consideration, this study examined the life skills developed through sport participation at three international high schools. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with high school student-athletes (n = 29). Participants’ responses were analysed using a constructivist approach. Results indicated that: (1) participants used sport as a means of social, emotional, and academic self-improvement, and (2) sport helped participants develop an ability to work with others. Most participants identified how they used life skills within the sport environment and the deliberate strategies they used to transfer them to other domains, while few participants indicated that their coaches used intentional strategies to facilitate life skill transfer from the sport environment to other domains.

Through the newly developed visualization pipeline, FEM results such as stress, temperature and resulting deformation, as well as the underlying constraints can be visualized in virtual and augmented reality (AR) applications. Special features are the use of 3D glyphs for mapping stress direction and gradient as well as data preparation and the resulting data format, which was especially developed for use with virtual reality (VR) systems. This article demonstrates the current state of VR developments, which were done at the Institute for Machine Tools and Production Processes, for improving the analysis of complex FE datasets, and gives an outlook to future research activities.
