Invalid specifications can occur when a GD&T specification is defined as an annotation in a product design without rigorous validation. A new XML based validation model is presented for the classification and validation of syntactic and semantic errors in GD&T specifications that follow ASME standards (Y14.5M – 1994). Of particular interest is a datum evaluator based on ASME rules to check for ambiguities in datum referencing for any 3D CAD model. The evaluator uses a graph structure representation of related datums within a datum reference frame. The concept of using this graph based model for representing the tolerance information and validating it against the XML schema and repository is discussed.
This paper presents a rapid manufacturing process for near-net shape multi material parts. By usi... more This paper presents a rapid manufacturing process for near-net shape multi material parts. By using a conformable molding system, a multi material object can be fabricated in a series of successive molding operations without the need for complex process engineering. By controlling the movement of molding pins, the fabrication process is completed in one setup. The net shape part produced is not an assembled part, but an integral part, which can be produced in small batch size. A suitable system of movable tooling components is presented using a 3-axis system. Related applications and operation sequences are also discussed in the paper. Examples have shown the capability of this molding system.
Presumptive write-off of bad debts portfolios while minimizing potential collection losses is a k... more Presumptive write-off of bad debts portfolios while minimizing potential collection losses is a key cost containment strategy for lenders and creditors. Using an example of a healthcare bad debt portfolio we present a two-stage methodology to achieve this. First we develop a predictive model to prioritize delinquent accounts for liquidation and then use stochastic and non-stochastic binary programming to optimize account balance and model scores on a segmented surface.
