Graduado con honores en Antropología y también obtuvo un título de profesor de Historia en la Universidad de Buenos Aires en 1980. También se graduó de rabino en el Seminario Rabínico Latinoamericano "Marshal T. Meyer" en Buenos Aires en 1986. Después de completar su maestría con honores en Religiones Comparadas en 1985, continuó su carrera académica y obtuvo un doctorado en Literatura y Pensamiento Judío Antiguo de la Universidad Hebrea de Jerusalén en 1993.
Actualmente curador de los Rollos del Mar Muerto en el Museo de Israel, en Jerusalén.
Recibió un Doctorado Honoris Causa del Rocky Mountain College en Estados Unidos en 2005, la Medalla de Oro de la Facultad de Humanidades de la Universidad Anáhuac en México en 2014 y otro Doctorado Honoris Causa de la Universidad Católica de Cuyo, San Juan, Argentina en 2017.edit

This small book takes the reader on a long journey tracing the development of the Book of Books through the treasures displayed in the Shrine of the Book – from the earliest extant manuscripts of the Bible, found in the Judean Desert, through the Dead Sea sect to which these manuscripts are attributed, to the amazing story of the Aleppo Codex, which was copied about 1,000 years ago in Tiberias and is considered the most accurate manuscript of the Hebrew Bible and the closest to the biblical text we possess today.

This exhibition and publication survey the role played by the Temple over the course of Jewish history, from the biblical commandment to ‘let them build me a sanctuary that I might dwell among them’ (Exodus 25:8) up until our own time. Envisioning the Temple takes as its starting point a text attributed to the priestly circles from which the Judean Desert sect emerged: the Temple Scroll. From the point in the Second Temple period when the Dead Sea Scrolls were created, we look back to the biblical period – the Tabernacle in the wilderness and the First Temple – and forward to the subsequent evolution of the idea of the Temple.
