Comparative Linguistics

The present research discusses the significance of the cognitive interpretation of conceptual information in belles-lettres as a key element in the process of revelation of implicit information veiled by the author. The adequate interpretation of cognitive context affects deeper understanding of the author’s intention and explicates the general idea of a literary text. Moreover, it may help to reveal some characteristic features of the personages or author’s modality related to the described events. Several approaches, which emphasize the correlation between research methods of cognitive linguistics, literary studies, and interpretation of a literary text were observed in the article. The present research deals with the problems related to the interpretation of conceptual information in the process of literary translation. Cognitive context involves a vast layer of implicit information, which forms the representation of author’s intention and reflects the main ideas incorporated in the text. Different approaches to the analysis of the cognitive context in modern linguistics are discussed in the article as well. The analyzed examples illustrate the role of cognitive context and the necessity for the adequate interpretation of conceptual information in pre-translational analysis and further equivalent choice of means of translation.

This article is devoted to the analysis of the short story genre in Russian and Uzbek literature of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, in which a subjectivist-open position in attitude to reality acquires the quality of the leading principle organizing its artistic integrity. The article analyzes the whole layer of works with different realization of the triad “author-narrator-character”. These three components of its beginning are connected at one point, the author becomes both the narrator and the protagonist of a literary text. Moreover, either a partial or complete coincidence of the narrator with the author is observed. The article discusses the problems related to the specification of the levels of linguistic personality of a literary translation. Translator’s linguistic personality is a subtype of a linguistic personality, which is always limited to a special social function and conditioned by the ideas, style, linguistic peculiarities and preferences of the source text author. Therefore, a literary translator represents the reality that was perceived through the prism of a source text author’s mentality and cognitive experience, but with the attraction of own cognitive baggage and understanding of the foreign culture. The article discusses the role of national-cultural information in a literary text and the necessity for its representation in a translated text. The opinions of several researchers regarding the relationship between language and culture are observed here. Basing on these general assumptions, the conclusion related to the specificity of culture representation in a literary translation is given.
