However, often when deviations from the expected behavior occur, additional actions are needed to remedy and restore the process state. These would seem as further reducing conformance according to existing measures. This paper presents a conformance checking approach which considers the response to and recovery from unexpected deviations during process execution, by analyzing the data updates involved and their impact on the expected behavior. We evaluated our approach by applying it to a real-life case study, utilizing different baseline alignment techniques. The results show that our approach succeed to capture adapted behavior in response to deviations and may provide insights concerning the implications of deviations in the process.

Patients would be empowered by the system, which would enable them to lead their normal daily lives in their regular environment, while feeling safe, because their health state would be continuously monitored using mobile sensors and self-reporting of symptoms. When conditions occur that require medical attention, patients would be notified as to what they need to do, based on evidence-based guidelines, while their medical team would be informed appropriately, in parallel. We wanted to assess the system's feasibility and potential effects on patients and care providers in two different clinical domains. We describe MobiGuide's architecture, which embodies these objectives. Our novel methodologies inclu...

Their layout, solely determined by the modeler, affects their understandability. To support the construction of understandable models it would be beneficial to systematically study this effect. However, this requires a basic set of measurable key visual features, depicting the layout properties that are meaningful to the human user. The aim of this research is thus twofold. First, to empirically identify key visual features of business process models which are perceived as meaningful to the user. Second, to show how such features can be quantified into computational metrics, which are applicable to business process models. We focus on one particular feature, consistency of flow direction, and show the challenges that arise when transforming it into a precise metric. We propose three different metrics addressing these challenges, each following a different view of flow consistency. W...

However, shared inter-organizational business processes may pose additional constraints on the internal processes of an organization and reduce their flexibility. The paper builds on a conceptual model of business processes in a virtual organization. The model aimes at identifying a minimal process definition to support the collaborative process while allowing flexibility of the internal processes. The model is informally presented through a case study of an inter-library loan process, and its implications on flexibility are discussed.
