Decided to submit PR first instead of merging directly, looking back to issues as described in #1501 (but artificially bumped FLASH_ISR area, rebuilt without -f*-sections and confirmed that real code size stays the same of course).

Ok, with issues in #1501 being cleared up, I'm merging this then.
