The only documented way of resetting a search path is by passing null, all these other variants may have worked at some point, but that was pure coincidence.
The newer image does not find mono 3.12 in PATH so our build fails with that.

Path resetting was doing something that should have never worked, but other than that, the only issue was with the revision walker ordering assumption, which this codebase seems to do quite a bit.
