bug: appearance is not set on some cases for notifications

We recently improved the notifications - more specifically the appearance part. 

Still, a specific case is not handled properly on the fetchers.
If a logo or name has been set and then cleaned, we do not remove the entry from the database, but set it to an empty value instead.

We need the notifiers to handle this case and return the default values for these cases.
