Thank you!
Awesome.
Mathematical!
@romannurik, i was using it inside a view in a gridviewadapter. When using it, it was showing the tooltip properly. But the itemclicklistener was not getting called. Below is my GridViewAdapters code which extends BaseAdapter
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context
.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View gridView;
if (convertView == null) {
gridView = new View(context);
gridView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.gridview, null);
// set image based on selected text
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) gridView
.findViewById(R.id.grid_item_image);
String gridItemPosition = griditemValues[position];
if (gridItemPosition.equals("a")) {
imageView.setImageResource(R.drawable.printer_normal);
imageView.setContentDescription("tooltip description");
ButtonTooltipHelper.setup(imageView);
}
} else {
gridView = convertView;
}
return gridView;
}
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Anyone have a screenshot of what this looks like?
Goood!
Why have you written it is only for UI-only elements?
Seeing the code, I think it will work for any view that is long clickable. (Inlcuding buttons, textviews, even layouts, etc.)
@raquibulbari
The clicks are being eaten up by the onClickListener. Just return false
in method private static boolean showCheatSheet(View view, CharSequence text)
There is TooltipCompat
in the Support Library as an alternative:
TooltipCompat.setTooltipText(view, "Tooltip text");
I wrote a small blog post about it – https://medium.com/@egor_n/leveraging-android-accessibility-to-show-tooltips-for-any-view-62f3792de00b.
For custom layout in API 30 (Android 11) getView is deprecated so insert e.g.:
private static boolean showSnackbar(View view, CharSequence text) {
Snackbar snack = Snackbar.make(view,text, Snackbar.LENGTH_LONG);
View snackbarView = snack.getView();
TextView textView = snackbarView.findViewById(R.id.snackbar_text);
textView.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
textView.setAllCaps(false);
textView.setTextSize(20);
View sbView = snackbarView;
sbView.setBackgroundColor(sbView.getResources().getColor(R.color.RAHMENBLAU));
snack.show();
return true;
}
and change the setups to:
public static void setup(View view, final CharSequence text) {
view.setOnLongClickListener(new View.OnLongClickListener() {
@Override
public boolean onLongClick(View view) {
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < Build.VERSION_CODES.R) {
return showCheatSheet(view, text);
}else{
return showSnackbar(view,text);
}
}
});
}
thanks!
