requested translator admin to complete the preparation work on Wikimedia:Translations_guidelines
This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Translated pages of Wikimedia:Translations_guidelines show several untranslated sections still in EN although stats indicate 100% as translated. Please admintrans work is required here to complete the messages. Thanks -- Christian 🇫🇷 FR (talk) 14:36, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the pointer. These issues are reduced (but not entirely solved). One template was fixed, and it's now possible to translate the transcluded content from Wikimedia:Duplicated content (but the incomplete translations won't show up in the "100% completed" main page's stats, however the section does link directly to it so hopefully that's clear enough!). Thanks again. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 22:18, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Restrict unfuzzy rights on WMF wiki
Per the logs, there have been three instances just yesterday of translations by new users being marked not outdated without being properly updated. I suggest that, as MediaWiki.org has already done and Meta plans to do, we restrict the right to autoconfirmed users, which right now just means having had an account for four days with no edit requirement.
This would obsolete Special:AbuseFilter/4, which could then be disabled. Pppery (talk) 04:38, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- +1, and thanks. Let me know if/how I can help, beyond endorsing. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:35, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Given the frequency and decision on other wikis, this makes sense to me. Given this wiki's governance model, let's bring this up in the core admins' chat, and then we can fill a task similar to phab:T366994. Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 10:36, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Pppery, the Core administrator team discussed the issue, and decided to perform said change. I filled phab:T369979 to implement that change. Thank you for proposing it! Sincerely, Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 11:55, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
Adjust filter 3 to check for global user contributions count
I got hit by that filter while trying to tag a userpage that was out-of-scope for the wiki. Leaderboard (talk) 09:11, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Leaderboard, thank you for alerting us. I went ahead and updated the filter to take global user contributions into account. Hopefully it now works as expected. Best, Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 10:35, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
kab.wiki is not Malayalam
See https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Legal:Notices_received_from_search_engines#Malayalam_Wikipedia - the only request under Malayalam Wiki refers to kab.wikipedia. Leaderboard (talk) 09:16, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- I've fixed that, and noted it to the Legal team. Thank you for your note here. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 18:12, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

bad bullet marking Rebulka (talk) 17:16, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Rebulka: Can you elaborate on what you mean by "bad bullet marking"? It looks accurate to me. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 18:38, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Request for translation admin permissions
Hi, I would like to request translation admin permissions per Wikimedia account policy. I'm frequently patrolling recent changes and deleting vandalism as well as nonsense translations. If such nonsense translations create a new page, I can currently only delete the translation namespace pages, but not the newly created (0% translated) page itself. TA permissions would allow me to fully clean up such nonsense. @GVarnum-WMF fyi. Johannnes89 (talk) 15:20, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- This is now done. Sorry for the delay, and thank you as always! Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 18:56, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Quiddity (WMF): would it not be reasonable to allow stewards to self-grant this permission, and to assign it to global sysops as needed? I don't see the need for this to go through WMF. Leaderboard (talk) 07:21, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- There are a few options, for either simplification, or clarification, currently being discussed by the core team and other colleagues. Thanks, Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 17:14, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard: Technically, Stewards have this ability already. After discussions with core team, I have updated the related section of the Accounts policy to verify they may use it at their discretion. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 18:55, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @GVarnum-WMF Stewards can give the right to global sysops or any other user, right? Leaderboard (talk) 03:46, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Technically - yes, they can provide it to any given user - as they can on any other public wiki hosted by the Foundation. Procedurally, we are asking it be limited to Stewards, Global Sysops, or Foundation staff on this specific wiki at this time. Or put another way, "multi-wiki functionaries or people on staff". That very well could change in the future, but we want to scale up operations instead of leaping to final possible stages right away. Given the nature of the wiki's content, there are legal considerations (and to be clear, I am not a lawyer, so offering my understanding) and ultimately our desire is to protect volunteers.
- As we feel confident we can expand various rights, we will absolutely do so. However, given the legal or potential legal nature of a lot of the wiki's content, it is easiest/safest to work within the group of individuals/volunteers with some sort of existing legally considered more in-depth relationship with the Foundation such as Stewards and Global Sysops (again, with their protection as a top priority). We are also trying to be considerate of any given volunteer or user right group's existing demands/preferences and not distracting too much with things like maintenance of "Foundation" content. However, we also recognize our content has movement-wide implications - so it is a delicate balance between all considerations. Trying to find that balance, we have made changes like improving how translations or commentary on content on this wiki can be done by a wide volunteer audience - and will continue to ponder/implement improvements. "Administering" any of that content requires additional time and consideration. For what it is worth, we have also made a number of additional improvements to decision making processes, such as adding people from more departments within the Foundation - most of whom come from a volunteer background - and all of whom have an informed perspective on both why we want to expand rights/usability and why that sometimes needs to be done carefully to avoid unintentional risk or outcomes for volunteers.
- All of that is to offer context on why we are at this stage using a narrow scope with some rights and content roles, but are not necessarily opposed to widening it over time as interest and consideration/discussion allows. As with everything in Wikimedia, this is a work in progress, and I anticipate things will evolve over time. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 04:26, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Fix double redirect
The WikiLove terms button links to Feedback privacy statement: a double redirect, and hence does not work. It should be targeted to Legal:Wikimedia Foundation Feedback Privacy Statement, the final page. Thanks! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:32, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Bunnypranav, for pointing that out. I have gone ahead and fixed it. We do have a bot running daily to fix broken redirects, however the broken redirects list itself has not yet caught up with recent changes. The rest should be resolved shortly. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 16:46, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
