It has received increasing attention as an effective way for community empowerment. It is mainly used to provide incentives for services such as community mutual help, health care, education, and caring for the underprivileged. This study illustrates a time-banking initiative of an educational institution in Taiwan. Participants were given the opportunity to be volunteers in exchange for a tuition waiver. This study explores how the time-banking program contributed to the goal of empowering learners and scrutinizes the advantages and challenges of this program from the sustainability perspective.

An important aspect has been the adjustment and development of more inclusive regulatory policies. This study explores the policy-enhancing role of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in empowering Indigenous college students through an analysis of a nationwide service learning program initiated by a NPO based in Taiwan. The findings revealed the important role of NPOs in enhancing government policies by leveraging their knowledge base and resource networking in order to develop a service learning program for Indigenous youth, which aimed to develop their self-confidence and strengthen their ethnic identity. A pressing need is to re-design businesses and products for sustainability. Social responsibility and environmental sustainability have thus emerged as a core element in business strategy and an important source of managerial and product innovation. To contribute to the quest for sustainable business economy, the study analyzed a Taiwan-based tea-manufacturing firm that successfully transformed its mission toward environmental sustainability through innovatively re-designing its product architecture and effectively aligning the internal processes, marketing, and mission governance with product development.
