And we're live! Welcome back to the new and improved Fanlore! We want to give a huge hand to Wyatt, who worked hard to make this update possible!

Time flies since the last time Fanlore got a MediaWiki upgrade, but we need to wait no longer! This Sunday, September 22, Fanlore is scheduled to go through a MediaWiki upgrade at 5pm UTC (what time is it for me?)
Fanlore will go into read-only mode during that time. This will last for about 1-8 hours while everything migrates and is tested, and during the upgrade you'll be able to browse Fanlore, but won't be able to log in or make edits, so be sure to save your edits beforehand! (Note: Due to reindexing of edits, Fanlore browsing was briefly down during this upgrade).

2024 Stub September Challenge starts today!
Join our party on an adventure, and challenge yourself to work on neglected articles! From September 15th through 29th, you can expand short articles on Fanlore to earn RPG themed badges. Learn more on how to participate in our Stub September guide!
If this is your first time editing Fanlore, you can also check out our New Visitor Portal and tutorial pages to learn how to get started. And if you’d like to consult with the other editors before, during, and after the event, feel free to join our Discord server, where you can chat with other Fanlore folks and ask any questions you may have!

Fanlore is Recruiting for Discord Moderators
Are you interested in community management? Do you enjoy chatting with fans about fannish history and fandom in general? Do you like helping people answer questions about wiki editing? The Fanlore team needs Discord moderators to help Fanlore editors connect with each other, answer questions, and run our quarterly editing chats.
The Fanlore editing community on our Discord server documents fandom history, engages in challenges and editing chats, and works on editing Fanlore together. We need your help to keep the server a lively and welcoming place. If you think you might enjoy that, come and join us! Applications will close on 28 August 2024 at 23:59 UTC or after 30 applications are received.

July is Fandom in Color month on Fanlore!
This month is Fanlore’s fourth annual celebration of Fandom in Color. Throughout the month of July, we’ll be spotlighting the contributions of fans of color to fandom, celebrating favorite characters of color, and highlighting pairings, events, discussions, and more.
Both characters and fans of color are often overlooked in fandom spaces, and we’re trying to expand their presence on Fanlore. We work on this year-round, but in July we ask specifically for your help by sharing and editing the pages we highlight this month and adding new ones that are not yet documented on Fanlore.
Fanlore should be inclusive of all aspects of fandom and all participants in it. We hope you enjoy what we share this month, and we welcome you to join us in documenting even more.

Fanlore is Recruiting for Chair Track Volunteers
Do you have experience in managing or leading people? Are you an organizational wizard? Do you have an interest in preserving fannish history or experience in wiki editing? The Fanlore committee is looking for new Chair Track Volunteers to join our team!
Fanlore is the committee responsible for maintaining and promoting the Fanlore wiki. We promote Fanlore on social media, run Fanlore editing challenges, support Fanlore editors, write the wiki's policy and help pages, and respond to emails from editors and readers. The Chair Track Volunteer position is for people who have the time and dedication to learn all about our operations so that they can be considered for the role of committee Chair.
We're looking for someone who has experience in wiki editing and an understanding of social media, who is comfortable with personnel management and training new recruits, and who is experienced in leadership or management whether in a business or nonprofit environment. Candidates also need strong time management skills and the ability to work on and track multiple tasks at a time. If that's you, please apply!
For your application to be considered, you will be required to complete a short task within one week of submitting your application. Applications will close on 26 June 23:59 UTC or after 40 applications are received.

The Fanlore Bingo challenge starts Monday!
Emerging from the mists of time is Fanlore’s annual Bingo Challenge! Join us from June 3rd-June 16th to complete your Bingo cards. There are two cards: one for beginners and one for advanced editors, or you can complete both for a total blackout! Check out the Challenge Help page to learn more about how to participate, see what tasks are on each card, and find task instructions.
When you complete a bingo or blackout, you'll win badges adorned with mythical creatures!

This May is Pan-Asian month on Fanlore!
We'll be spotlighting a variety of fandoms and fan activities related to all parts of Asia and Asian culture, including Central Asian, East Asian, South/Southeast/Southwest Asian, West Asian, and anything in-between.
We have Categories for Chinese media fandoms, Japanese media fandoms (anime and manga, dramas, j-pop, j-rock), K-dramas and K-pop, Filipino-speaking fandoms. We also have pages scattered in other Categories, such as Middle East Film and Comic Con a convention in West Asia (UAE), or Trese a Filipino horror comics series - that also has a Netflix adaptation! We're focusing on any existing or new pages for any type of fandom from all regions of Asia.

2024 IFD Fanlore Challenge starts Monday!
In honor of International Fanworks Day 2024, we are holding our annual IFD Fanlore editing challenge! Join us from Monday 12th February to Sunday 18th February, and earn cool badges for your User page by completing the editing task of the day!
Each day has two options: a regular editing task designed to be accessible to editors of any experience level, and a bonus task for more advanced editors. You can complete either (or both!) to earn a badge. Check out the Challenge Help page to learn more and find the list of editing tasks!
