Jurian Edelenbos
From the start of his scientific research Edelenbos has a special interest for interactive governance processes (participation, community engagement and self-organization of citizens and private actors) in complex decision-making networks and the relationship to existing governmental and political institutions. He conducts research through the lenses of community self-organization, governance networks, trust, boundary spanning, network management, and complexity leadership in the areas of urban regeneration and regional development, the last seven years especially regarding water governance as he became professor by special appointment (“bijzonder hoogleraar”) in this field (started in 2009). He studies water governance issues in the broad context of spatial planning and regional and urban development. The last couple of years he expanded his research orientation to community involvement and self-organization in interactive governance processes in the fields of urban planning, water resources management, health care and sustainable energy.
He takes an interest in conducting research on the intersection of science and practice. He (co)developed the ‘learning evaluation’ approach, on which he published in Evaluation Review (2005) and Evaluation (2001, 2006). In his research he like to conduct a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative (single, multiple and comparative case study research) and quantitative methods (SEM and large N studies/regression analysis).
