PAST SIMPLE, el pasado simple, es uno de los tiempos verbales más importantes del inglés.

Lo necesitarás
siempre que hables de acciones que ocurrieron en algún momento del pasado una o varias veces.

PAST SIMPLE: AFFIRMATIVE


En la forma afirmativa debemos prestar atención al verbo ya que hay 2 tipos: verbos irregulares y verbos regulares.

IRREGULAR VERBS

Son los que aparecen en la lista de verbos (primera columna) y que cuando hay que escribirlos en su forma pasada pasan
a la segunda columna.

EJEMPLO: GO (forma infinitiva)-----pasa a WENT (forma pasada)

REGULAR VERBS

Son aquellos verbos que NO APARECEN en la lista de verbos y a los cuales hay que agregarles siempre ED al final.

Tener en cuenta ciertas reglas ortográficas al momento de agregar el ED:

 verbos terminados en consonante más “y” : la “Y” desaparece y se convierte en IED

STUDY...........STUDIED

 verbos en E : solo se le agrega la D

LIVE…......LIVED

 A estos verbos se les duplica la última consonante antes de agregar ED

STOP – PLAN- TRAVEL- CHAT – CLAP- DROP- SHOP- GRAB- COMMIT – MOP – PREFER

STOP...............STOPPED
 A los verbos restantes solo se les agrega ED :

PLAY………PLAYED ( la “Y” no cambia porque NO TIENE una consonante delante)

LOOK.......LOOKED

PAST SIMPLE: NEGATIVE

Para armar oraciones negativas en pasado simple, necesitamos utilizar el auxiliar: DIDN’T.

El auxiliar DIDN’T puede usarse con todos los pronombres personales, es importante tener en cuenta

que los verbos se utilizarán en modo infinitivo


Anna DIDN’T PREPARE a sandwich.
Anna DIDN’T PLAY tennis yesterday.

PAST CONTINUOUS se usa para describir una acción que se estaba desarrollando en un momento en el
pasado.

Para formar el pasado continuo se utiliza el verbo auxiliar “to be” y el verbo+ing. El verbo auxiliar “to be” está en el
pasado simple.
