Cognate with Old Turkic 𐱃𐰃𐰺𐰭𐰴 (tïrŋaq, “fingernail”), Kazakh тырнақ (tyrnaq), Kyrgyz тырмак (tırmak), Uzbek tirnoq, Uyghur تىرناق (tirnaq) ,Crimean Tatar tırnaq, Turkmen dyrnak, Tuvan дыргак (dırgak) and Yakut тыҥырах (tıñıraq, “fingernail, claw”).
