[edit]From Malay remaja, from Javanese ꦉꦩꦗ (remaja, “adolescent”), from Old Javanese *rumāja (“young”), rāja (“king”) + -um- (“become”), from Sanskrit राजा (rājā), nominative singular of राजन् (rājan, “king”). Cognate Sundanese rumaja.
