[edit]From Proto-Finnic *jouc'ën, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *joŋkće. Cognates include Karelian joučen, Northern Sami njukča, Erzya локсей (lokśej), Moksha локсти (lokśťi), Eastern Mari йӱксӧ (jüksö) and Komi-Permyak юсь (juś).
