[edit]From Proto-Finnic *haama (only found derived in Karelian hoamu, Veps aamo, and dialectal Finnish hahmo, haamo), probably from Proto-Finno-Permic *šamɜ. Other cognates include Erzya чама (čama, “face”), Moksha шама (šama, “face”).
