Albanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]- According to Orel, from Proto-Albanian *sprūgnja, etymologically connected to Lithuanian sprūgstu, sprūgti (“to escape, get out”) and Proto-Slavic *prygati (“to spring, jump”).[1]
- Earlier form might have been *fnyj, from *pnyj,(Can this(+) etymology be sourced?) from Proto-Albanian *pnewa, hence from Proto-Indo-European *pnew-. Compare Ancient Greek πνέω (pnéō, “to blow”). A similar development p- > f- happened to ftoh, from Old Albanian ptoh.
