[edit]Most likely from a North Germanic language; compare Norwegian pakkis, Danish pakis, Swedish packis, all formed from Old Norse pakki (“package, parcel”) and íss (“ice”), with probable influence from banc (compare German Eisbank (literally “ice bank”)).
