This is the pronunciation template for Latgalian words. Every parameter generates a separate pronunciation, based on the respelling given in the parameter. The following special characters are used to specify pronunciation that cannot be deduced from the spelling:

  • ė (e with a dot) Used to mark the mid front vowel /ɛ/, usually written <e> in the Latgalian orthography. In the diphthong <ie>, this letter shouldn't be used.
  • ̂ (circumflex) Used to mark broken tone. In diphthongs and tonal vowel-resonant combinations the diacritic should be placed on the second element (e.g. al̂ instead of âl). On long vowels, this diacritic should replace the macron (e.g. â instead of ā̂)
  • ' (apostrophe) Used to mark palatalisation of a consonant that isn't followed by a front vowel. In clusters, the mark should be placed after the last consonant (e.g. acs' instead of ac's)
  • ˈ (stress mark) Used to mark stress if it falls on a non-initial syllable.
  • . (dot) Used to separate two phonemes that would normally be read as a digraph.
