Etymology
[edit]Perhaps from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s/m-t(w)a ~ *(t/d)u (“hammer, strike, slap”), provisionally set up by STEDT, and cognate with 碓 (OC *tuːls, “pestle”), Burmese တူ (tu, “hammer”).
