Our user name issues are likely to be almost identical, at least I cannot think of any major deviations from Wikipedia's environment and needs. By adopting this early we can avoid a few problems, it can always be tweaked in the wiki way when needed. A policy like this would more helpful than it would add to "instruction creep". Other than some blatant vandals with obscene language in their names and impersonating well known users, I don't see this as a problem. Besides, with the unified login coming I don't see even that becoming a major issue as the naming conventions are going to be moved up to the foundation level as well. WV:UNC needs updates

The current version of WV:UNC says that Bureaucrats will rename, but this is outdated (renaming is currently handled by stewards and global renamers), how should we update this section? Should we simply replace Bureaucrats to stewards and global renamers, or do we need further rewriting? MathXplore (discuss • contribs) 02:46, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

To be perfectly honest, I think most, if not all, of this section is unnecessary. The vast majority of inappropriate usernames are vandalism-only accounts, and are blocked as a matter of course. It is exceptionally rare that a productive contributor will have an inappropriate username; on the off-chance that one shows up, they can be directed to request a rename through Special:GlobalRenameRequest.
